JamesW, what a fabulous post! Thank you--from all us members who are actually here to learn and to share--for nailing it on the head with your 5-point plan.
I too was struck by the demand for 10 articles, only one of which would earn the prized half-dollar. If my math is correct (and it usually is), that decreases the payment for "writing" by a factor of 10.
My advice for anyone who needs copy that inexpensive is to learn to write. Get a hold of E.B. White's classic essay, "The Elements of Style." It remains the shortest, clearest and best tutorial for effective writing. I'm sure it's available online, or any librarian would be happy to guide you to a copy.

LOL , Parsibagan .. this was really hilarious. In fact I was stumped for a moment and read the line detailing the rates per article, twice. Then it hit me that you are just kidding. This was really good and should be made sticky on Copywriting forum.

Btw, I would be ready to work for you. You just need to throw in some peanuts with the 50 cents and then the deal would be perfect !! Most amazing is that people are ready to work for you even under these terms and conditions. Man, they must be really desperate !!

 

@confused_freelancer: I am blessed if I could provide a bit of mirth to you all. What pains me is that lesson I wanted to impart has not been understood by most. There is no dearth of medium and high paying jobs if one is willing to devote a bit of time.
