will posting press releases to a related site harm you for dupe content? (assuming that ohter site will also post the release?)

I have usually taken it as a yes (but havent researched it) so instead of posting the whole press release I quote some of the important parts, write about it and provide a link back.

that makes sense. do you do well by doing this in your niche? (read: is it worth your while?)

I don't think that it would affect your site, most companies publish their press releases in their own sites.

true, but as a user - wouldnt you rather go to one spot for all press releases for a topic, rather than visit many company's sites?

As a user I wouldn't normally go looking for press releases. But if I happened to be at a company's site (because I like the company) I may read some press releases.

Press releases are normally pretty small. With just the links and normal things you put on a page it should change the page enought that it is not considered a duplicate page.

If you are still concerned, add a prelude paragragh to the page. Also if you put more than one release on each page, the page will not be a duplicate of another page.

Well I dont come across any issues and the newsletter is only mentioned on my blog when a company in my niche has something interesting to say.

I also don’t post a full press release because the same one can be found in all my competitor sites who don’t provide their own opinion on the news so whats the point in replicating?

When PRWEb issued my press releESE I searched the web to see how widely distributed it was.

search like this "Press Release" <------topic of your release

In most instances your press release will be published by other sites

if it's press release, I understand that it's free to copy, cause it for press, right? Press can be considered anybody who provides news. I don't know how google is thinking about it, but logically there shouldn't be any threats.
