I tested both yesterday and they worked fine with a premium account.

In any case, as we outlined previously, it is up to the download managers to be coded to use FileSonic, not vice versa. We have absolutely no restrictions on download managers for premium users. JDownloader made a small request from us, which we quickly implemented, and we continue to work with them to help them support FS premium users. Otherwise, there's not much we can do.

Post original content that isn't all over the web, target the right traffic sources (US, Western Europe, etc), post larger files, post multi-part archives... amongst others :)

Two schools of thought on this. The first camp argues single clicks greater than 400mb generate the most sales. Conversion is obviously 100%, but how many folk simply turn away when membership is forced upon them? The second camp uses split archives 251-400mb. This method allows free users. There are plenty who still leech, but you stand a chance to pluck sales from them eventually plus you have the sales from those who want the files now and do not leech. Depending on one's share, I tend to side with the second group.

As far as total downloads, probably the 251-400mb range as you still allow access to free users. I know folk who split 700mb archives into 100mb parts and actually pick up less downloads than they would if they had 250mb archives because folk will look for the large parts instead.

Apologies you were totally right about the IWF proxy, I've sent a support ticket to Bethere but I don't know if they'll do anything about it, I assume they've had lots of people complaining to them already!

"An alternative is to buy a FileSonic Premium account. Click here to join now."

Nice change to the error page, although a bit cheeky telling people to buy a premium account when it doesn't make a difference to them being able to get files!

EDIT: I just tried right clicking on files in the folder list and clicking save as, which works! Unfortunately doesn't seem to be able to download two files at once because the first one stops, but the speed is actually pretty good so might be worth adding that to your error page...

I doubt it - loads of people have complained - result nowt.
There was, about six months ago, a tool on the beusergroup forum that had a link to a tool to do the traceroute thingy - but BE made them remove the link.
I think there are still a few posts on that forum showing the traceroute results if your interested or intrigued.
Anyway seems like the problem is now fixed (or very near to being fixed)

I can't sort in the file manager at all. Just by name and only A-Z. Is this an issue? Do I need to PM someone with my account info? Thanks.

    I have a premium account but I can't download...

    http://s21.filesonic.com/not-allowed.php?linkId=23517711
You can not access this page directly. Please use the website to start your download or contact us in case of problem.

    What can I do???
I also have all my files listed as no premium, if I click on info icon near my files I get -> Premium: no

I'm getting bored to have all this matters with your host... users don't trust you anymore, few people choose to download my filesonic links, they prefer other hosts...

I have a serious problem with my filesonic account which makes me feel really disappointed. In August I bought 180 days premium account for ~$30 paying with Paypal. My account wasn't transfered to premium so I contacted Paypal to get my money back. Then Filesonic transfered my account to premium, however it worked only for a month ... now it is just a regular user account. I tried contacting support for asisstance but they never answer any e-mails. For almost two weeks now I'm unable to use my premium account I paid money for ... this is not the way filesonic should go if they want to become serious hosting service. On the forum I see there are Filesonic workers so maybe they would be able to help me with the issue ... if not then buying premium accounts at Filesonic is just waste of money and time.

Well, the same problem also happens if you use the "downthemall" download manager for FF so I don't think it's just IDM. This problem is only for premium members. For free users this problem does not happen. Something has to be wrong if the same problem occurs with multiple download managers.

My downloaders are getting the old "You can not access this page directly. Please use the website to start your download or contact us in case of problem." However I tested the link and it seems to work fine from s1. The downloaders are in USA on the east coast. Please check servers because some must be down. Don't you guys have alarms set up when servers go down? Or do we have to alert you each and every time?

As we answered several times, we provide Webmoney right now and we're looking into other payment providers. I really don't want to sign up with some random provider who is going to shut down a month later, with our money and yours. The trustworthy ones are really numbered, unfortunately.

Servers are 100% up. Were migrating files off of old servers to new ones, so perhaps they tried to access the file during the transition. Are they still having these issues?

To the folks from the UK who couldn't download (BeThere, AOL, etc), we just deployed a new fix that allows premium users to download. We believe that it will solve the problem entirely.

Let me know if you have any feedback. As for free users, honestly, it would take a lot of work to try to bypass your proxy system, and we're going to delay it until we complete other more important tasks.

the point is filesonic is the one loosing sales not the download manager company, they are not earning any money from minor updates unless its a major updates like a major jump from ex. ver 1.02 to ver 2.0. and no one will buy premium if he know that his/her download manager can not be used. why would you buy premium if you know that you can only have 1 connection if you use browser download and 8/16 connections for download managers.

you can list down in you download page that "best to download using idm x.xxx or jdownloader y.yyyy etc" or list download managers that currently support your code, list as many as you can. from that potential buyers knows that they can use download managers

Why are you downloading the file through that link? You're supposed to use http://www.filesonic.com/file/23517711

I tested this link from several locations and it works fine.

That's a good suggestion. I will see what I can do about it.

By the way, we deployed the new download module not long ago. We had no choice but to do so, so I still believe we made all the right decisions, despite JD, IDM & co needing to adapt their code. From a technical standpoint, we're a brand new host (with the new DL module) and it is perfectly reasonable for them to take some time to get it right. As I said, I've been in contact with the guys at JDownloader to support them in any way possible.

If anyone has contact with IDM, you can ask them to get in touch with me to do the same.
