hi guys. I'm kinda new to the whole marketing thing. No, I'm completely new.

I've been reading a lot of affiliate marketing guides when this year started out (somewhere February). I got a clickbank account, found some products, I wrote a few articles (4, to be exact) and it didn't go anywhere. Again, I had completely no clue how much it had to take to make it here. Anyway, I gave up and just focused on school instead. (college right now).

It was only until two weeks ago that I heard a friend of mine made some money online. I was completely shocked and jealous. Although he did something totally different (he sells his services), when he mentioned this site I checked it out.

Then, I began browsing here. I found so much info, i could feel my head heat up.

Now, I have a new respect for this way of marketing and want to take a second shot at it.

This time though, I thought I'd try out CJ.

First thing's first. How do I join CJ? I know I need a website, but right now I'm not quite sure how to go about making one. Is there a certain pattern or commonly practiced process in joining CJ?

So, hoping to hear from you guys. Thanks

    Jerome

    Jerome,

If you have no background or knowledge on how to build a website, go to a company like 1and1.com or godaddy.com and you will see they have easy to build site templates. They are so easy to work with even a caveman can do it. I believe that 1and1 is a litle easier than godaddy for a newbie.

You can buy a domain name, build a website and you literally can be up and running in just a few hours.

Once your site is built and you have some pages with content then you apply to join cj.com.

After joining CJ, you search for advertisers that you think would work well with your site content theme and apply to join them.

Once accepted by them you place their links on your site, promote your site and drive targeted traffic to your site.

Those are some basic how to get it going steps for you.

    Hope that helps.

@jax: thanks, that really helped a lot.

so, do i need to buy a domain name, or could I join via 1and1/godaddy?

what content do you mean I need to have on the first few pages?

By 'advertisers' do you mean the people who are selling/promoting a product right?

Thanks again man, appreciate it. :)

You'll need to go to one of those guys and buy a domain name. Choosing the name is pretty important as you want to focus on a web site that is centered around something you like.

For instance, I am a businessman and interested in all kinds of small businesses, what makes them successful, how to start a business, what tools you need to run a business properly so my sites are all centered around that kind of thing.

Small business is kind of like a hobby for me so my work is really a hobby as opposed to a job and making my sites generate income is my full time job. I own a couple of other businesses but they are run by others for me.

After you decide you want to pursue a particular niche, go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and play around with some keywords and keyword phrases to see what kind of traffic and competition is related to them.

Once you get some idea of what looks good to you, go to 1and1 or godaddy and see what domain names are available that are in the same realm as your keywords/phrases and buy one.

I would suggest not to buy a .info extension as they do not seem to get the same love from google et al as a .com or .net.

After you buy the name, you will be able to choose a template and pages for your site. On those pages you want content that people would read.

For instance, on one of my sites, I teach how to start certain businesses. That site has about 68 pages or so and every pages teaches a person how to start and run a particular business.

If you are doing a site about dogs, you could have a main page talking about dogs in general and then individual pages on types of dogs. You could have a page talking about Japanese Chins (we have one and his name is Google), a page talking about Cocker Spaniels, a page talking about Dog Health etc.

And by advertisers, I do mean the companies that are selling their product and paying you as a publisher to hawk their wares.

Thanks a lot jax, really appreciate it. Say hi to Google for me :)

PS: 'hawk' means to advertise on my site right?

I just told Google hello for you and yes, hawk does mean to advertise on your site.

I forget that some of the slang we use in the US is not used everywhere.

Any other help you need, please feel free to ask.

I, and others here, are glad to help.
