What is use of http-equiv="content-type" in meta?

In my web site, there is use of below meta tag:-
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
if any one have information about work of these tag please suggest me.

it mostly to notify the search engine that this is a regular text content and not a video content or any other types of content.

As far as I know this meta tag is not very important.

 

I don't know dude. i think it doesn't effects the key word ranking

 

It just tells the browsers the coding of your page (what type of character set should be used)
