Helvetti how long has controlled fusion been in research ? We have been literary pouring money into it since the 1970 oil crisis . And the fist demonstration reactor is set to begin construction in 2025 . We might be getting commercial fusion by 2040-2060 . To put that tech into operation we'll need another 10-20 years . And that's just the energy part . Raw resources are also limited and it will take probably another 200 years before we manage to have commercial planetary flight . Even so you're forgetting biomass . How do you plan to feed your population ? By farms in the sky ? You're far to optimistic . Now let's assume for a moment your fantasies will come true and science will get a few Einsteins to bolster it at a unimaginable rate . Ever heard of the balance of power ? Ever wondered why China only has a 2 million men army when it could easily have 10 million ? When another power block becomes to powerful it becomes a threat . When that happens you get another arms race and another cold war . In order to have 3 bilions in china you need to have 800 milions in the US . Growth will happen but right now it's more SciFi .
The only problem is that you don't know what you're talking about. Your assumptions & knowledge of the subjects are superficial. Speak for yourself. I would much rather cull the stupid & weak than add to the cesspool.
In the EU almost € 10 billion was spent on fusion research up to the end of the 1990s, and the new ITER reactor alone is budgeted at € 10 billion. It is estimated that up to the point of possible implementation of electricity generation by nuclear fusion, R&D will need further promotion totalling around € 60-80 billion over a period of 50 years or so (of which € 20-30 billion within the EU). Do you know how many countries are part of the ITER? More than 30. And look at the funding..lol 10 billion in 40 years and estimated 60 billion over the next 50, Total: 70 billion over 90 years compare this to $1 trillion poured into a useless war over 8 years. So much for world changing tech So don't tell me "..but we've been pouring billions". Throw some more money around and you can get all the great minds to work on something far more rewarding and make it a reality in a couple of decades. Re interplanetary missions, if US wants it can send a man to Mars in less than 10 years, even without all that known current lithium reserves would last 3000 years, lithium from sea water would last 60 million years, and a more complicated fusion process using only deuterium from sea water would have fuel for 150 billion years for fusion to generate energy if levels of 1995 are sustained. To put this in context, 150 billion years is over ten times the currently measured age of the universe, and is close to 30 times the remaining lifespan of the sun. Energy is everything, with clean energy we can eliminate more than 90% of our emissions, lower the costs of business and continue on the path of development without hindering the environment. Food and all yeah..do you think its a big issue? As a percentage of total population I'm sure more people died of famines and hunger when our population was 2 billion than today when its 6 billion. Today a cow gives many times more milk than one gave 100 years back, same for yield/unit of land. What made all this possible? Jesus? Looking ahead, planning for the future, having ambitious goals and working towards then is NOT fantasy, but saying we all our bad because adam and eve ate an apple maybe IS. Someones having a bad day ... If thats your attitude then better start with yourself.
Hanuman is just above you (er.. above your post). But I am not talking of Hanuman but the monkey god which according to me is not Hanuman because Hanuman is not regarded as god in the original Ramayana.
When I started typing your reply wasn't there...and if he's not a god, then why is he worshiped? I think there are more hanuman temples in India where people waste time and money than public toilets in India.
Helvetii ITER shmiter . Do you think ITER is anything more then a way of gathering what others know ? The US and the EU would rather nuke each other rather giving fusion technology to China . The cash that's putted into devices like JET Torus and LHC is well hidden . The US also has a natural habit of keeping technology secret . Whit fusion it's as high tech as it gets . No one wants to give anyone the edge . You are looking ahead , too far ahead . In the end it's India's decision what it will do whit it's population . But know this if floods similar to the ones in Pakistan will strike the Indian subcontinent no money in the world would be able to help you . You guys are now in a induced regional cooling . Whit the advent of cats the sulfur is getting removed . As that happens global warming will truly show it's ugly face . In the last 4 years the price of iron has doubled and this year alone the price of grain has increased by 60% (data needs to be verified) . I'm curious how do you plan to keep a modicum of civilization without iron and cereals .
Actually we have floods every year in India. And thanks to the geography, we have a drought in some places while the other regions are flooded at the same time. In fact there were major floods in India last year, covering an area perhaps bigger than Pakistan. Have a look on Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_India_floods However being a larger country with better resources, we're able to
I know all about the climate & geography . The monsoon climate has floods as something natural . But you guys are actually enjoying less floods then the rest of the world atm . And in 5 - 10 years you can expect to see really big floods . Think Katrina but on a gargantuan scale .
Bleh. Safe and reliable fission generation technology is available today and we're not using it because luddites are afraid of nuclear energy. With available reprocessing technology we can use nuclear waste as fuel. With breeder reactors we have enough fuel to last until some new technology is developed. Power from nuclear fusion is still a far away dream, but we're just being stupid to live like cave men because we decide to wait until tomorrow's technology is available.
You are pretending as if you don't know the answer yourself. Asking questions for the sake of it or for ridiculing later when you see an answer, which anyway you are going to ridicule, shows the worthless part of you. You know as much as I know that Indians worship trees, cows, lions, tigers, monkeys, elephants like we worship humans - living or dead -, gods and also our parents. The point is, we do many things such as that as a matter of respecting them all in an unique way which is way too far from the casual style which most of the atheists are used to do in India. I don't know about you but my hunch is they take false pride in refuting age old faiths. If you have to laugh at something, just do it but without pretending and ridiculing things that existed before you were born.
