How do you get the initial traffic for a blog

Currently i have got three blog ideas which i am trying to explore. However every time i am getting stuck on how to get the initial traffic for the site (just talking about the initial 5-10 visits a day rather than 100s). I had assumed that most of the initial traffic would come from submitting the posts to social bookmarks. However some of the posts which i read here on this forum say that unless you have a large number of friends/followers on Digg, Twitter and Stumbleupon these three major sites do not contribute anything to the traffic. So my question is how to really get that initial trickle of visitors to your blog?

Not 100% true, in fact you can get lots of traffic from a single post, usually on Social Bookmarking the key is in the title, what gets them clicking as such. But repeat visitors need to subscribe somehow, being notified when your fresh content is up. What you are probably looking for is places you can submit your RSS feed to. So a site with an established traffic source can divert some of their traffic via people clicking on your RSS updates. Like I said, it's all about the 'catchy titles' when it comes to Blogs. Or at least from my own expierience as a web user I would say it is. I haven't got time to read everyone's blog, I wanna see something that catches my eye.

You have to start somewhere to, also have content going up twice a day ideally, remember not every goes to bed and wakes up at the same time, people aren't going to see you blog when it is 15 hours old and new content is waiting for them instead just 2 hours fresh out the oven....give them purpose to come, and they will. So to counteract this extra work I would write at least 2-3 days in advance, 5-6 if you can.

Just keep at it and be patient is my advice with a blog!!

    Thanks.

For me stumbleupon is a good option. You can generate lot of traffic and it is cheap. Of course at the start you received a few "like", but after a while you get some follower, make sure you have an option to subscribe to rss. Also, like someone says above, submit your site to a rss feed is a good option. Like for anything else you need patience and consistent work.

I hate pointing out my own product, but it may (will) solve the problem for you - especially methods 3 to eight in it.

    good luck with your journey

Im in the same boat as you. I registered a .co domain, and started a blog - i only get a handful of visitors a day but it does require a lot of work. submit your blog and feed to sites, use any social networking, and give people something to read.
I usually write reviews on movies that have not come out yet, give some new tech breakthroughs, along with posting any funny/humorous video or article that i find..

It will take time but dont give up

Have you tried the auto blog samurai software? I use it to generate free traffic and build new blogs (check it on lwande.com)

Start blogging every day and contributing content. Use Facebook and Twitter to promote to your "FAN" and twitter streams. After that , do some link exchanges. That will get you started! Don't spend money if you don't have to.

Try to advertise in relevant forums that relate to your blog and start making a Buzzz for your blog...

I'm always getting my first visitors from google. If you have niche blog i think it's not very difficult to get 10-20/day.

Keep posting great content! That is the best way to attract traffic from all over. Use the typical bookmarking stuff, and maybe pay for some backlinks to your site.

I'll give a vote on keep posting great content.

I have, at times, generated a lot of traffic from Stumble Upon but it pays almost nothing. Very low for clicking on ads.

Articles on EzineArticles on the other hand, do very well.
