How do you start a new Wordpress layout?

    I want to start making customized Wordpress layouts for my sites. How do you start a layout? Do you take the wordpress default template and manipulate it, or do you start from scratch?

    I would prefer to use any existing theme or template. check out my blog I have customized my own theme using another them. I called it JStyle. If you don't know how to develop a theme from scratch, this technique is better for you.

    Make sure you do your reserarch first. I tried customizing my blogger blog and it got screwy in IE. I tried fixing that and it got screwy all around. Eventually I gave up and went back to the way it was. That was because I did not really know what I was doing. Eventually I plan to make a custom template but first I need to really understand how.
