Why is my forum ranked 5th in google?

Hi all,

I want to know why my forum is ranked 5th in google by typing the keyword "dslr apprentice"

the few other sites ranks above mine, are no where near related to dslr. especially the twitter one.

Can anyone guide me on how to make it ranked no 1?

You should work more with the title, meta-description and H1 tag.

i have the same problem, only my site is not even in the top 50. I downloaded a great forum engine from simplemachines.org. what is wrong with my site? why is it not even in the top 50? here is a link. http://musicsoftwareforum.com/

also my site has been up for almost a month. no traffic.

 

Are you using PhpBB or vBulletin? Do you have the correct SEO settings set?
How old is your domain? New domains take a while to rank well for anything
Do you have decent backlinks with anchor text?

All of these things are important for determining your rank.

Well - look at the back links on the ones above you .. its looks like there links are in bigger quantity and better quality - on page seo is important but so does backlinks and if they have a bit of SEO related to your subject and many many good quality backlinks maybe compensate for the irrelevancy.

 

kevydesigns, before you listen to or act on any advice on SEO for your situation, you need to get your foundation and direction right. This is VERY important, get your keywords right! No one searches for "DSLR apprentice" this cannot be considered a keyword, so why bother about ranking it? Use a keyword tool (I recommend Google Adwords tool) to research and finalise optimal keywords and then pursue ranking.

end023, there are plenty of resources on SEO and DP itself is a useful resource. You will find tons of material on net, but remember you only need the basics of SEO to get a good start. You need to start with good on-page optimization when building the site, and outsource the off-page SEO (if you don't have time) or DIY using the link building, article marketing techniques, etc that you would find on net/DP. It DOES appear in google.com. Perhaps it's you who is redirected to a local Google? Try retyping www.google.com/ncr to prevent redirection.

 

Im having a similar problem my site http://www.billdodgeautogroup.com i cant seem to get above the 8th position for four of my key search terms
maine hyundai
maine buick
maine cadillac
and maine GMC
as far as i can tell my on site optimization is much better then sites above me i have a higher page rank of 3 have existed longer and have more backlinks any sugestions ????

 

for a dslr forum dedicated to newbies, i guess keywords such as the following will be good:

"dslr"
"photography"
"photography forum"
"beginner dslr"

etc..
am i heading the right way?

DSLRis a tough keyword to rank on top. I've been working on it and it's hard. I do have some for which I am ranked nr.1 though.

 

Twitter is high authority site. It is one of the easiest way to reach top for any highly competitive keyword.

Just build more quality SEO backlinks using your targeted keyword as anchored and you will slowly gain the top spot.
