It's pretty much worth nothing . Neither Aviva nor Live rank well for any important keywords , and the traffic they receive is probably 95% worthless to the links within . They promote the directory not the content , the traffic they receive is not comparable to real directories .
If owner decides that they no longer pay for signature links and featured links , all you will have is a uselss collection of overpriced links with a declining PR .
Just stay clear of those two , there are far better ways to spend 34.95$ .

As part of my reviews, I try to distinguish between the owners that are out to make a quick buck and the solid business owners.

We both know that with 34$ and some patience(and some luck) you can get 2-3 permanent 4-5PR links .Even A well-anchored pr6 blog post is worth more than that 34$ listing .
    It's just a matter of $ .

How would you know that without looking at the traffic logs, which AFAIK have never been made public?

To which "real" directories are you referring?

What business sense would it make to stop paying for this?

I'm not sure that's true, but even if it is, that's not the issue. The issue is whether you'll get a positive ROI on your submission fee.

    Nice analysis dude....

Well i agree that an investment in aviva and alive are sound investments as those extra dollars do go in good hands.

Even buying a temp text links in a high PR site is more expensive

I am not in that business , I am nowhere near that business .
And I am not against , I think it's just stupid to pay for such a submission . I just don't see a good reason to do so .

One of the best things on DP is the fact that people offer very cheap and cost effective services here , and 34$ can be spent much wiser by a DP member on directories and blog posts.
Heck , 34$ can by you a PR3 domain on a good day . Just check the Sites forum .

Note to self : don't critisize a product in a place where a person that is getting paid to promote the product can leave you negative feedback for critisizing it.

i have a question for you

would you pay $5 to a PR 0 website for featured links, or 35$ for a website which have inner pages with a PR 5+.

Its alright that you don't have a good PR as chris, or jeff ... but here is my thoughts about how business should be done.

If you don't have something constructive to say, then its better not to say anything.

I think alive and aviva definately worth the money. I would buy a link there rather than buying 10 other PR 2 links for that amount.

You know why... pick up your calculator do the log, and it will show you

2:2:2:2:2 is no where near 1:6:1:6 (hope you know how to use it, doesn't seem like you do with your comments)

once again to those who are into this ...

i recommend alive and aviva directory because both owners keep it well advertised, and they are devoted in their sites.

I think $35 is fair value for a fast simple way to get a permanent one-way quality link that can be PR5. :)

$35 is not a lot of money, actually it is basically nothing. You can;t get a stake at a nice restaurant for $35 :)

I have submitted probably 3-4 sites to Alive directory and Aviva Directory. The benefit to having these links is SEO in my opinion. If you are a directory owner submitting your site, then it may help the traffic you get from them. But when it comes down to it, it is an easy way to get a targetted link.

An example is a site I ONLY promoted to directories and is now on the front page of Yahoo and MSN for my keywords. On the second page of Google. So they do have a benefit to the submitter.

to the people who are thinking of not submitting payment to Alive directory etc , think of it .... if people like Chris thought the same way when he started promoting ..... he would not have arived with the PR7 today , nor get 34 USD from so many people .
Whats more , once the directory boom settles down , i dont expect as many directories as there are today to remain . At that time , i would feel quite happy to have solid one way link back from powerful directory like these ones. Whats more , without the payment , it would become another sluggish DMOZ , where nothing moves for months and even years :p

hmm.. I added my site to alive directory and let me tell you why. One important point I might make is that this is a permanent link. The company has done quite well and has made a name for itself as you can see from its many "fans" so i expect it to stay around.

The main reason I chose to put a link there is for the SEO benefit of having my link with proper anchor text on a PR4 page permanently. I also expect the internal pages PR to raise over time.

A second reason is that my company deals with sales large enough that if i get a single sale, ever, then it will at the least pay for the link, and at the most pay for a link times 10 or 20.

I was not aware the owners are known here , I'm sorry I criticized his product while not understanding it's value .

Here's a small gift until the next PR update .

    Huh?

Anyway you are critizicing good directories, they are the ones best worth your money after site-sift, botw, yahoo and stuff like that....

With both (alive vs aviva) directories the high PR makes it very worthwhile.

I've noticed that some of the internal pages have different PR values for the same category so obviously if you're on a limited budget check the PR before you submit.

I'll be submitting some sites soon I think its a good PR investment.
