some guy on macrumors forums was asking about imac boot times so i made a video of my imac booting. its an intel core 2 duo 2.0ghz with 1gb of ram. it boots in about 16 seconds.

    heres the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8pFsqAiZOU

I've never done time trials ;)

Desktop PC is a load, it has an old PCI IDE controller though so that adds like 10 seconds right there!

My new single core Laptop is less than 16 seconds I wager!!

I'll go locate my stop watch [IMG]

I've heard that the appleram is a lot better than the bananaRAMa

3GB yeah, I would hope that would help.
Is that the max for your setup?

I have a desktop 2x1000 Mhz (two Pentiums III) and 512 MB ECC RAM 133 MHZ, Windows 2000 on a 10k rpm SCSI... it takes ages to boot. Windows itself is booting slowly, but RAM check takes about 20 seconds, then BIOS checks SCSI controller... But it's a rock stable box :D Never a single BSOD for half a year since I assembled it:cool:

and what's the PT on that? $4k ;)

I'd take a slow boot over my BSOD's ADOTW!!

I'm investigating a BSOD now from chkdsk no less

I just added some RAM to my Mac and it made no difference in booting. Meh, at least it runs apps better.

apparently I have no concept of time b/c mine was pushing 54 seconds on my LT.

I think it just felt SO much faster b/c my old IBM Thinkpad 900MHz (SD133 ram) was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO slow. It took like 5-8 mintues I think by the time the HD stopped spinning

Mine is slow too. About a minute or so on a P4 with 2GB of ram. The reason is because of dual boot setup with CentOs, the bootloader takes a couple of seconds to do its thing. Also, my computer needs a new Win XP install, but I don't really have the time right now.

I've seen a Mac installed on a Dell PC partition and it loaded like under 10 seconds.
