I keep hearing people expressing the importance of content building on your website and submitting those as articles after it has been indexed to article directories. Well what I want to ask you guys is, what do you do when you have an e-commerce website selling products? There are only so many articles you could possibly post on your website to keep your website e-commerce. I tried viewing my competitors websites and no competitor of mine has "articles" on their website. So how would this work for e-commerce websites? btw I am still planning on writing articles and submitting them to article directories except none of them would be posted on my website.
I create content but it is purely for marketing reasons. I have seen some people develop blogs around their ecommerce store but if you have no intentions of regularly updating it then it would be more hurtful to your business than helpful. For this reason, I submit my content to article directories and other related blogs for backlinks so I can build up the organic traffic and sustain it.
So you are saying for E-commerce websites like mine it is best to just write out articles to submit to article directories would be sufficient for traffic?
Creating content and submitting this content as articles in high-ranking article directories is very important in maintaining a decent PageRank for your site. We have an eCommerce site that has been generating an income for over 3 years... as soon as we stopped writing and posting articles and linking these to our site, we saw our PR slowly drop, along with the level of our organic traffic. So we're back to writing good content and posting informative articles on directories.

Right, I am working towards getting better search engine rankings than I am with creating a blog and trying to keep it up to date. The great thing about ecommerce is that once you get it going then you can maintain it with a little maintenance and keep seeing the money roll in. Unfortunately if you setup a blog and gain readers, although this isn't a bad idea, you have to have plans to keep it updated forever. This means more work for you long into the future even after your website reaches its full potential. However, I don't want to tear down the idea of having a loyal following, but if your sole purpose is to convert traffic into sales then you don't have to have a forum or a blog to do that. I discourage it primarily on the sole reason that most people give up on trying to keep it up to date within a month or two.
