Hi I need some info on cloaking. First should I cloak my sales/payment url and if so when they say replace each occurrence of VENDOR and ITEM with your unique values in the php script header(â€Location: http://ITEM.VENDOR.pay.clickbank.net†I am not sure what they are talking about. Is the item the item number or is it the name. Is the VENDOR the actual payment url I am using? Very confused. Thanks
You need to use a product such as Product Lockdown to protect your Clickbank download pages- it works great, I use it myself- it will save you a lot of heartache down the road, as Clickbank's built in security is not adequate.
I don't really know what you're asking...but if you are worried about people "stealing" your products through your download page, I wouldn't worry about it. 98% of your customers (unless they are experienced internet marketers) will have no idea how to find your download page. Clickbank will help you sell many more copies of your product than people end up getting for free...
That's not a very good security strategy There are entire forums dedicated to ripping off people who take that strategy- why would you let your intellectual property go unprotected on the net? I would never count on them not finding it, because they will- and it will be only one person out of that 2% that decides to share your link, then its all downhill from there- I've seen the sites with the stolen copies rank higher than the site actually selling the product.
You don't understand. Seriously - the vast majority of people who buy products on Clickbank have no idea how it works. Trust me. As I said, only internet marketers will search around for a free download link. Don't be paranoid - of course you can try to protect your product download page, but don't pretend it's a huge deal.
I'm not pretending its a huge deal, just google it. The fact is if you spend 500+ hours developing a software product of some type then you DO NOT want someone to just take your source code, change a few lines, and start reselling it. Obviously he's worried about it, and most people are.
By the way, why are you so defensive? No need to tell me I don't understand, cause I do Probably more so than you ever will.
Why is dlm so defensive? For one answer, just look at her picture. I have also read through a significant number of messages on this forum and you can see the same pattern over and over again; it's dlm getting pissed off and criticizing people. Maybe dlm should stop criticizing people and start making posts that actually help, or actually "demonstrate" how much knowledge she supposedly has.
LOL. I wasn't "criticizing" anyone. I simply said this problem isn't that big an issue for most publishers. Also, most of what sells on Clickbank are ebooks, not software. Anyone who knows anything about CB realizes that you can buy any product, download it and then request a refund immediately. If someone knows enough to find your CB download link, they would know enough to request a refund and get it for free anyway.
And you have made all of 9 posts...and clearly aren't helping anyone. You also don't seem to have any knowledge whatsoever. NOW I'm criticizing people.
At the end of the day, if you're just selling an ebook, protecting yourself with dlguard, or with the PL dudes shit above, is only going to go so far. I pay for your ebook, I get into your dlguard members area, I get my download.pdf/.zip, I share it < You can't protect yourself from that. You can set a password on your books, you can even make it dynamic in some cases, even that is pretty easy for someone that really wants it, or that really wants to just share it. To answer your actual question: example: http://3.dubturbo.pay.clickbank.net < This is an example of a payment URL, 3 is my product item # (we have 50+ products in this account, this is #3 obviously) - dubturbo is my vendor name, the rest is stationary. This is the link you would attach on your BUYNOW button on your sales page. Yes you can cloak this pay url however as stated - only those into MMO (makemoneyonline) niches are ever going to care about that. People that are getting solutions to every day problems or software or music or anything NOT mmo, just want their product, they don't care how the money is shared, they don't know what cloaking is, or what a payment link could/should look like. They just read, click, buy, get their solution/desire, and move on. So I do agree with DLM, and as jaded as DLM might be I can relate to 90% of the rants, and see them as justified or just tough love. This forum is getting overrun by idiots (not referring to anyone in this thread just over all) and it becomes very fucking difficult to just help someone when you see others spamming their shit, like here obviously the PL logo avatar is for the shit the dude is recommending, easy to get mad at for me too... Guarantee it's just a matter of a few posts before you see this guys siglinks, and his first answer has nothing to do with the OP's questions/clarification re paylinks and cloaking, nothing to do with protecting pages or software, they just want to plug their product. When most of the threads are like this you'll see all the seniors being jaded, and finally 12 posts into the thread an actual answer from someone to the OP's original Q instead of the battle that ensued due to a plugger. Look at threads subjectively, most OP's are only making threads to get fucking sigbait, most responses are the same, just to get post count up, sig bait in, plug their product, somewhere in there you might find a nugget. I used to hate DLM's thorny ways to but now applaud the filter and you newer guys gotta start seeing this forum for the spamfest it really is, you're marketers now start smelling the bullshit.
Gosh I didn't realise what a hornets nest I would open. So basically if I can be ripped off no matter what I do. I must say that that down loading a product then asking for their money back could be a problem. Do Clickbank keep a record to stop regular offenders ? Can you question a demand for a refund ? Thanks everyone for your help.
This happens very infrequently. Most people don't even understand how Clickbank works, so I wouldn't worry about this. As NCMedia explained, most products are just e-books that people can email to their friends anyway. Refund rates on quality products are typically less than 5%, so people stealing your product really isn't that big a deal. Listen - sell the product with Clickbank. You can use any statistics or analytics software to determine if people are "stealing" your product (compare the number of downloads of the file to your sales). I can basically guarantee you that there wont be any problems. And so what if one or two people get your product for free? You'll more than make up for it with the additional sales and revenue that Clickbank can help you bring in.
