I hosted my site on HostGator and while I was developing it, I had a family emergency, which now takes up most of my time. So, I am unable to work on the site, leave alone monetize it. I paid the initial rental on the hosting, but skipped the last two monthly fees. Now, my questions are: - if and when I want to resurrect this site, I believe I would have to pay all the remaining dues? - since the site was doing nothing for me and it was more of an experimental thing, so there wasn't much research gone into the domain choosing and all. I can pull the plug on this one and transfer all my stuff to another domain whenever I am able to work on the site again. Now, my question is, would the hosting company take exception to this and not let me host another domain with them (maybe using another hosting account - with same PayPal info) unless I pay the previous dues. - can I use my existing hosting account and just NOT renew my first site subscription but go on to host new sites? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Okay, so what would be the correct procedure to pull the plug on this particular hosting... even if that means paying up the dues for the last two months??
Each company has their own way of dealing with these things. No one here can tell you what Hostgator will do or say, so you'd be better off contacting them directly and explaining the situation to them. You don't mention whether you have a backup for your site files. It's very unlikely that Hostgator will have a copy of them if you've been delinquent for a couple of months.
It is fair to pay the invoices due and then to decide whether to cancel the services or not. The hosting provider has the right to refuse access to account which has not been paid. As you know this is a subscription service, not property rights.
1.You need to pay the penalties on top of overdue hosting fee. 2.Yes HG will conduct check on the paypal. 3.Yes.
host may terminate sites according to TOS if sites are long due payment, so if there is any important data, you may need take backup, but if you have not taken backup, than you have only one choice to pay due, take sites online, run it for some time, and after taking backup you may want cancel hosting plan, thats the only way you may have to take proper backups of your sites but if you wait for long, than your site data may not even be available
A friend of mine was recently in same situation as you are with only difference he was with Godaddy. Godaddy has kept his site hostage and is asking $300 to give back the site files. So be careful and always have a current backup of your files.
Wow, this is sheer blackmail. Aren't there any cyber laws against this kind of extortion? Penalty is okay but $300 just to have the data back !!
That is a shame, it is just abusive. Its better to keep a current back up. Talk to them, and pay whatever you owe(if they are not abusing of your situation) ~Mike
I believe if you have some problems with certain web hosting company you need to get in touch with them only.
