You should not only focus on one part of link building, and abandon the others, submission to directories plays an important rule in increasing one way back links as well as blog commenting, social bookmarking, forum posting, etc...

You need to benefit from all the sources that provide free one way back links.

There is a lot of directories and each directories have thousand of website. Is it still relevant? I don't know, but I try to submit my new website each time I have a chance. If it is free... How can we say a directory is quality directory? Can we trust paid directory? That's the question I have in mind when I work on my SEO.

I'd be careful about getting too many backlinks real quick with new sites. Better to do a mix of directories, article submissions, blog and forum posting - regularly.

So you mean to tell me that if I went out to a PR1 blog and left 10 comments, the link juice from those comments would be worth more than getting my link on a PR9 link directory? You sir, have no idea what you're talking about.

Yes, it still works, but don't limit yourself to directories. Variety of links is important, otherwise it doesn't look "natural". stevebloemer is correct, use a mix.

    Fully agree.

Better submit to some of the more authoritive directories such as dmoz.org, Yahoo.com and Business.com. Submitting to all the others, unless they are topic relevant' niche or great local directories is a waste of time.

I don't think directory submission is useful any longer. Directory may be having good PR but it is irrelevant

Google has already developed advanced system whereby directories are ignored and most of directories are having DO NOT Follow attribute.

Even if one checks google webmasters, one won't find his Directory links there.

People are still carrying same impression that directory submission is important SEO step. However, now 90% of directories are MFA (Made For Adsense) sites only.
