Hi I have a site that has so many pages, yet it's not being indexed like it used to be. 50% less almost. Recently I changed the URL structure to a more complicated one. http://www.example.com/jack-jones.html to http://www.example.com/people/968/jack-jones.html I however redirected all old pages to new pages (302 at first then now 301), however problems happened. In google still shows old urls and half new urls. Traffic is on major decrease. Is there any idea what I have done wrong? Sitemap submitted both to google and yahoo.
How long has it been since you reformatted the URLs? If it's less than a month then just wait it out, Google will reindex the new URLs on it's next crawl. Build links to the site but in particular to the inner pages as this will speed up the reindexing process. Double check you've 301 redirected them as you could cause problems if they either aren't redirected or are 302 redirects. I've developed a SEO Redirect Checker you can use for free if you wish.... Just input the old URL and see what it says!
If your redirects are working, just ping your new URLs and everything should be find as soon as Google tries to index the old pages again.
Thanks really helpful. I redirected all at start of August with 302, Realised my mistake last week (mid septmber 15th) now all 301 and now just waiting. This sounds normal? Thanks nice tool. Checked and all 301
try to get high pr back link whether its free or paid and get link for each page so it start indexing.
