If I rename my theme folder in my FTP will it cause problems? I've customised my theme so much that none of what I started with is there anymore and want to rename it

What difference does it make what the name is? No one can see it except for you. No matter how you have hacked it, it's still not your theme.
Design one from scratch and name it what ever you want.

Yes, you can rename your theme folder whatever you like but be sure after renaming that theme is active.

You're wrong, when visitors view an image, in the path is the theme name. According to Designers T&C's, I have permissions to rename the theme if I wish to do so.

First of all, you can remove the image link. There is no need for a URL to be there at all for anyone to see.
Second, images that you add are stored in wp-content/uploads, not in the theme files.

I'm just saying that it seems like something so insignificant to worry about and makes no difference to anything at all.
I'm sure there are more important things to worry about.

I'm not saying that you can't do what ever you want with your blog, but if you spend time nit-picking little things like this that don't mean anything at all and for the wrong reasons, I have to wonder how many significant things you are overlooking.

You also have to keep in mind how many pathways you may have to change that call on certain theme functions, and have the original URL in them.
If you are going to spend time doing this, make sure you follow the instructions so that you don't break those pathways or you will break the way the blog theme functions.

    Thanks for your Input hmansfield.

I must have loaded the theme incorrectly back when I started then because all of the images that are part of the theme, if someone - for some unknown reason - wanted to right click and view image, they would see mysite.com/wp-content/themes/MYTHEMENAME/images/header.png

The reason I'm nit-picking at the little things is because that's all we really have left to do on this site, just little jobs that aren't really essential but would be good if we can get them done. There are no more important things to worry about at this stage.

And the theme name is really ridiculous and we don't like it.

no, it doesn't mean that you loaded incorrectly. Themes that offer options to upload custom headers, logos and such often load them from the settings and would therefore probably be in the theme files.
Any images that you upload for posts, pages and customizations should be in the uploads folder.

Seriously if that's all that's left, then you are done. If you feel the need to change it, go ahead, but it really won't be seen by anyone and who ever does notice it, they are not going to care.
Regular readers don't know how to, or care to look for such insignificant things.

If you have nothing else to worry about, then move on and focus on the content, promotions and marketing...those things are never done and are far more important than the name of the theme that only you are going to see from the dashboard anyway.

Like I suggested....if you just have to change it, make sure that all of your paths are changed. you can't just change the folder and call it quits. You have to change everything that calls on internal functions.
Unless your theme only has files and no folders, all of the paths that call those folder functions need to be changed to match the name of the theme.

For instance, if you have functions in folders such as theme/includes/css/default..then you need to find all of those paths and make sure that they say, newthemename/includes/css/default.

That's my whole point. It's a big pain the ass for something that makes no difference.

Fair Enough, you've made a good point. It was just on the list of small things to do I was given on one of our sites - I'm not in charge of adding content or SEO for that site so I'll just move on to the next small job. Again thanks for your input it seems like a lot of work for something so meaningless. I'm glad, it's one less thing for me to get done before tomorrow night.

You can rename the theme whatever you want, but whatever files are referencing a specific name will have to be edited to reflect this name change.

Why did you want to rename your theme? I recommend you not to do that if the theme is not yours.

I usually copy and download the copied theme and working on it in local installation of a wordpress blog to change there and here. Once i am done with modification, i upload it to my online blog. I have done it so that my modification's process won't disturb my visitors.
