To be frank, I used to work in a company, and the colleague besided me just took in charge of mobile marketing. I know that he usually sent short messages to thousands of people at the same time. But I'm not sure about the effect. For I can receive this kind of messages from others sometimes, but I usually delete it immediately.
To add to my original question, what would some of the metrics be to measure the success of mobile marketing?
We have tried it with our existing client based and it worked pretty well with coupons/promotions/etc. However we haven't attempted to gain new market share with mobile marketing. I feel that most people despise spam in their email inbox, imagine what they would think of a text message to their phone (person).
I think that mobile marketing can be used only as additional means of promotion, not as basic strategy, because it is impossible to cover the target audience with the help of mobile marketing only.
just open some of the free mobile apps available on the various smartphone platforms. the free apps are riddled with ads but I haven't seen any numbers on how effective they are.
Yes, i agree with jeffwalton. Build a site with mobile apps and do a good SEO then ur site would be ur source of money.
Mobile marketing is the future of internet marketing. Google know this, and this is the reason they bought AdMob (mobile advertising platform) in 770 million$. If you want to drive traffic mobile traffic to your web site, your pages must be mobile optimized (if not - your conversions will be poor...). Here you can read few tips that will help you create successful mobile PPC campaign.
Better jump on mobile industry quick. There are tons of information we can work with on internet that connect to application on many features now.. or better yet come up with it on your own like what they said.
It is hard to actually measure the success of mobile marketing. Take an example of when you're advertising with Admob, MobGold, etc. It can be the "impression rate", or the actual "click through rate". Impression rate is actually helpful if your ads are self-explanatory of what you're selling/providing people will start to remember your business by seeing your ads like most of the time. Or the Click through Rate when people are going to your site and seeing what you're actually selling to them. However it would be different if you're just a webmaster just want your website to be popular, and generating much traffic. Then the measure of your success is how much traffic you're serving each day.
ivan.patt here explain it pretty thorough, i must say... and yes, i agree with most replies here... u might wanna consider starting to convert your site to mobile site or even create new ones specialized for mobile viewing only... or if you are more into creating apps, you can start creating mobile apps, and display ads in it... there are already some mobile ad networks out there, and i expect more to come in the future... and i believe the ones that can survive will be those who can prove that they're trustworthy and has a rather large base of advertisers, publishers etc...
I personally experienced when I received sms on my mobile about the advertisement of UPS which I needed it in those days. I called them got further information. Now a days many organizations are using mobile marketing method and making good business.
I think you are talking about sms marketing and its one of the best ways for marketing your product in the local market
well... sms marketing is one example of mobile marketing... mobile marketing is not limited to sms only... you can get ads from mobile sites you visit or apps you use... also phone calls....
very true.. but every people does not have GPRS, and 3G so the mobile sites marketing have limitation...
Ask anyone what mobile marketing is and I can guarantee you will get a wide variety of answers including: mobile advertising, SMS campaigns, mobile messaging, text message campaigns, mobile communication, brand marketing, building awareness etc. The mixed responses you get are because mobile marketing is all of these things depending on the individual's interpretation and how it benefits them.I could list a long line of definitions to try to define mobile marketing for you but what would be the point of regurgitating what everyone else is already saying and what you can search yourself? Instead I want to outline different ways of perceiving mobile marketing which will help you to determine why you should strongly consider communicating through this channel.
I've had a couple of friends who didn't have much success with mobile, though they are still testing the waters
