I am going to try the most simple trick in the book. My 2 sites, freeimghost.us and flash.vg are being refreshed every 3 seconds automatically by a few firefox plugins and sends stats back to alexa.com.

    Ummm... Here are the current alexa ranks for both sites;

    1.5million: flash.vg
    5.2million: freeimghost.us

I will constantly reload the index pages of both sites overnight tonight and see if my rankings are bumped up.

If they are bumped up a lot, then you know how easy it is to 'fix' alexa ratings and my research will be placed here in the same thread.

    Thanks,

    Rob

Are you sure its gonna works?

If its working then you need to refresh your websites everyday to steady your ranking, otherwise your ranking will drop again.

what is the fun part to cheat and lie to all world !!
would YOU really be proud about such fake rank when facing your own parents or family ??

    btw

alexa does NOT count every page load
see TOS and tech details !!

right now all you do is to create www-pollution by creating useless traffic and thus by using resources that could benefit real and honest www-usage

No, i am not doing it for personal gain. I am doing it to see if it is easy to change alexa ranking using the n00b method.

    Thanks,

Its sad that people try and fake alexa ratings. It degrades the entire community when people attempt to do so. Alexa has always received a bad rep but if you honestly think about it, they offer everyone a service and aside from PR, really no1 else does.

If I were you I would focus more on how to improve alexa and solidify the integrity of its data rather than trying to trash it. Surch is coming out with a ranking system soon and we are sure it can not be hacked but I must say that my hand goes out to alexa for the service they have tried to offer us all.

The idiocy of people that try and fake alexa in my mind is, to what measurement is ones resolve in their attempt? What are you getting out of faking traffic details? if you own a site and fake your stats you are obv. not obtaining new customers or increasing your user base therefore you are not benefiting fiscally... so is it just for show to say "oh I have a high alexa rating"... its, as you say, a n00b thing to do. Although surch has come up with some innovative ways as to our Ranking system, we will stand by one simple rule; If you even try and fake or manipulate our system we will simply ban your site indefinitely. Its time the internet started having a little integrity. So theres my 2cents on the matter. :)

I agree, however, alexa should solve the problem of 'cheaters' who cheat the system.

It is sad that people try to cheat the system, but people do it all the time.

it will not work, unless you change your ip and alexa-id before every refresh.

its funny how much people think they could be smarter than alexa just by reloading the same page over and over again...

Historically, and rightfully so, we should always judge not the outcome of a war but the manner in which it was fought. Its easy to blame alexa however, to those that "agree" and feel its "sad" we have a moral obligation to assist in every way possible else simply not use the system or even comment on it. Remember, Alexa is a "free service" so its not up to them. Besides the intent of your investigation, if you are using the same IP for this it wont or shouldn't work.

PS. falcondriver, theres something seriously wrong with you... your avatar is hilarious... LOL

I believe that Alexa has worked on the auto refresh to boost rankings - One of the DP members had a javascript tha did that and am sure there was a thread here or at sitepoint saying that the refrsh boosting no longer works.

This isnt working at all, all it is doing is getting me 5k adsense impressions and more stats on sedotracker.

Apart from registering ilovesedo.info and ilovenamecheap.info, this is the most stupid thing i have ever done. And i will stop now. Cos my ip isnt changing for a start, i could do it.

Alexa rank doesnt mean any more traffic to your site.

I already know that alexa rank has no relevence to traffic.

I have just closed the 2 tabs that were refreshed.

Bad waste of bandwidth... for my ISP and for my sites..

So what have i learned: It is not that easy to fake alexa ranks, it requires a changing IP which takes more and more work. Alexa is hard to 'cheat' and i couldnt cheat the system just using firefox.

So does this mean alexa is a good source or a bad source for stats? You can be the judge of that! (At least i have had 5000 adsense impressions and an amazing day for sedo tracker stats :p.)

    So how do you cheat?

Well.. for the easiest way to cheat, all you need is firefox, alexa toolbar, Microsoft-based OS.

load firefox and the site you want to increase.
    Go to start -> run
    Type 'CMD'
    press enter
    do ipconfig /renew
    Then reload the firefox tab
    then do ipconfig /renew again

    etc, etc.

Unfortunatly, i cant renew my IP so i cant cheat that way, but most can.

LOL, rather pointless and takes too long to do it that way,

    Thanks,

    Rob

There is no time wasting here. He is sleeping, the browser is auto-refreshing. It's cool that he even bothered to do it. So...

    Rep up!

Do you think maybe you will in fact be giving cheaters ideas and research data to go by? You may be doing them the biggest service
