My question is on the domain name in my signature, 'tritoch' was a character in a video game called Final Fantasy 6.

Can Square-Enix sue me or take the domain for using this name? From what I know in these matters they can't because the name is not trademarked and the site has nothing to do with Final Fantasy, just gaming in general and the name could just be a person's first name.

Would like any input on this..

Yes. Will they win? Probably not. If the name isn't trademarked, their claim to it is diluted. Your site is about video games, but it might be too much of a stretch.

Is Tritoch your first name? If not, that really doesn't matter. Even if it was, they could still come at you hard.

Thanks for the input. Would you recommend sending an e-mail to SE to see what they think about it?

It's always a good idea to send WRITTEN correspondence to a company. Send it certified and keep a copy. If you ever end up in court, the letter will show you made an effort (right or wrong).

Don't be surprised if they tell you that you can't use it. They might just to protect the name even if it's outside of their boundaries. Don't take their word as law if they say you can't use it.
