my SEO competitor is google and wikki, what should I do?

    I'm stuffed right?

I have a few sites, and they all use to do really well [and still bring in some cash]

But Google (and 'partners' ) have ventured more and more into other web-designers areas, beating these guys is near impossible

They always seem to swamp my site in the SEPRs with
    - Google Map adverts
    - Google Book adverts
    - Wikki information
    - Google <place word here>

The thing is, my sites are more niche and relevant for the terms being search and they are also free and more useful (who would believe it).

These sites by Google (et al.) are providing information, but my sites are providing a service and I truly believe users are going else were Since Google is swamping it's own SERP results..

Do you think Google will dismantle and just concentrate on returning search results if I write them a polite letter of complaint? <Ed... um, no!>

What would you do if Google ventured into your web-design area and beat you for all of your competitive key terms?

Is there any hope for my SEO campaing in the future if Google keeps venturing out?

Normally, such representation of the first two places in Google SERP is only valid for one-word keywords. And the traffic from such keywords is money-less.
Think on long-tail keywords related to yours - they convert into money much better.

not quite, but I might as well be :(

unfortunately not, I'm also getting beaten for phrases

.. think of any local business or service, and you'll find Google maps at the top [even though they are not a niche related]
.. any translation, and you'll find google translator [even though its direct robotic translation with no translation theory / services]
.. any videos, and you'll find you tube
.. and just about everything else is covered by wikki

It wasnt always the way. Can you imagin if you had a map site... there's no room for your site any more, google may trickle in some traffic ( if you're lucky )

tsh... a magician never reveals his secrets [but they get a few hundred visitors a day, and a few thousand when I wasn't competing with G]

Apparently, I do have a map site and I have no trouble with Google there. In opposite, I get ~6.000 visitors a day only from map-related searches.

I would suggest an intense back linking strategy along with producing good content on a regular basis. You should always be able to rise above doing that, it is a just question of how long it will take.

Hmmm... did you have these sites before Google maps really took off? Or are you telling me you didnt notice a drop in traffic after Google maps took off? (strange, because when ever I search for local things or maps, I always find Google at the top, and second and third ...)

I know you're trying to be helpful (and thanks), but the sites have been around for a while (they get natural links from users). Trying to compete with Google on Goolge with a Google PageRank Factor based on backlinks (etc) that Google measures (and a few hundred other factors) seems a little insane (but I have tried anyway)...

In most of the cases, there is a GM insertion, but still people are looking for alternative maps and do not click on Google mostly.

I go straight to google maps, personally. I don't google for maps, I type in maps.google.com.

I quite like them, we have a business site and when you search for our keywords the #1 hit is a google maps local business result for us. Our own site ranks about #10 or so, but links to us (business directories mostly) come up in the 9 results above.

Well you aren't a magician and it would be easier to help with some more information, I am pretty good when it comes to these things, but fair play, I respect your privacy. Either way without any other information I can tell you A) Like George Kuipers, the Maps search is actually a very good and actually I see A LOT of visitors going to my clients websites purely through this form of result. B) The Internet is changing, you must change also, you can't moan and groan and think Google will care for one second, you must be dynamic and exploit new technologies while they are NEW C) The SERP's aren't always 100% reliable, this GEO Maps thing has really helped people with local searches, as far as deeper searches I am sure this shouldn't affect you as Google has predefined business types to which these business come up for (not 100% sure on this however).

I really do hope you manage to resolve your problems.!

Why don't you try social media optimization. And do continuous link building. If your domain name includes the keyword, you can simply beat them.

I realize that your can't beat google for links or age or for that matter wikki but I would like to point out a couple of things.
    1. Google makes its money on adwords not people using their free tools, so the whole purpose google is to provide good relevant content. And it is their benefit to do so not to get people using their tools.
    2. The link building will make you site look popular and google will notice. And also your keywords are probably not exactly the same as googles so it can beat them in specific keywords if done correctly

Of course I can’t guarantee this will work, but I will say that I think you will be better off in the long run if your put yourself in google’s position when planning your strategy. Good Luck!

Whilst I admire everyone's optimism, I don't think you are ever going to beat them, you could spend all day every day for the next year trying, then if by some chance you did, I expect they would manually manipulate the results anyway, so you are wasting your time. You probably need to think of either something unique and market that angle, or just accept that they "own" the main keywords and go for a secondary one. There is no point fighting a battle you can never win :(
