Altho as the PP said, the best are where you don't reciprocate the links, which makes it harder for search engines to determine if you are being 'black hat'. 3 way links, btw, aren't that effective anymore, because the engines have for the most part adapted to counter it.

Don't waste you time with anything but one way links in relevant content. While it is true any page will need the basics, a well thought out title and keywords. And of course good content is necessary, but 90% of making Page 1 is one way back links that are imbedded in anchor text inside content from relevant websites or blogs.

The links should be in text in the main body of the page preferably towards the top of the page. Not at the bottom of the page or in the sidebar. The anchor text should be in relevant content. And of course the higher the page rank the better but has long as it is a real site individually owned it should be valuable.

3 way linking is not so cool nowadays look for paid links or better yet find some webmasters with a few sites so that you give reciprocal link to one site and get one-way link from another. Link-firms are scam, I was getting lot of virus attacks due to link firms as they have permission to the php files. Beware
