Secured domain name... now what?

Okay, I have secured the domain name I want. Now I want to create an interactive website where visitors will jot something down for public viewing at this site.

What is the first step beyond the domain name? How much will it cost?

You need to buy web hosting. Then you will need to learn very basic php, to create a .php file for that website. The web hosting will cost anything from $2.50 a month+

Unless you know how to write your own script you may want to look around for a script that does what you want before you spend any money. Most cPanel hosts offer auto installation of some of the more popular scripts.

You can actually buy decent, ad free hosting that is acceptable for a new site for as little as $1.00 per month if paid yearly. Many of the free hosts do not allow scripts to run.

What type of site do you want?

    Thank you both so much.

I am asking people for a specific thing - in writing.

They may write whatever the heck they want.

I copywrited the title in the Library of Congress about two years ago by submitting the title, an alternative, and some text, included the preface, introduction, guidelines and some sample submissions.

The copy is already written. I just don't know any of the logistics and tech behind actually getting the thing up and running.

Can either of you point me to a company or category which I could research by, say, opening a Yellow Pages?

I am so VERY encouraged by you both to know that I can actually get this going for less than $10.00 per month. Am I reading this correctly? I desperately need a map.

    Thanks so much

For sure you can get a high disk/bandwidth site on line for $10 per month in hosting.

Sounds like you need some type of content manage system (CMS) to allow your questioning and the viewers response. Sometimes you have to think outside the box.

What kind of yellow pages??? If you want to share here or by PM exactly what you want to do, I will try to help you at least know where and what to look for.

A question I would ask you, is there any other site that you have ever seen that works like you want your site to work? The topic or usage may be different but the style of site is something that any of us is going to need to know in order to point you in the right direction.
