Are You Submitting Your Blog To Directories?

At the moment I have submitted my blog to two directories; All Marketing Sites and PostZoom. Both the directories require that I put a small banner on my blog.

I'm just wondering if you have submitted your blog to similar directories and what your experience with them are (any traffic?), and please share the directories.

I don't use directories for a source of traffic. I use them as just another inbound link to increase pagerank. Never seen a huge amount of traffic coming from those listings either.

Thanks. I used to get some traffic from MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog, but not anymore. Now, I thought I'd try a few new directories, but probably not worth it?

I've submitted mine to a few. I'm not a fan of loading up my blog with links to blog directories so their link only stays on my site until it gets crawled.

So, it doesn't matter if you remove their link once your site is crawled? That's interesting.

I have my sites submitted to blogs and directories every day. I dont know how good of traffic they produce, I think not very much. But they both can do wonders for your SEO cause.

Ok , first of all there are PLENTY of directories that you can go into that are great for traffic. We have a few that are number one for certain keywords, so the people that submit their websites will get good traffic. We are also in a few that give our main website good traffic too, so it is not always about backlinks.

Second if you remove your link to a directory after you have been approved, apart from being a pretty low thing to do, most directories automatically either remove your link or make it nofollow. The latest versions of phpLD do this. If you are getting a link from a good directory, the least you can do is give them a link back.

Lastly, if you are worried about the value of your link in a directory, then maybe you are trying to link with the wrong people. Don't get me wrong, if you are paying someone in India $1 an hour to create links for you, then don't worry about being picky. If you are builing links on your own manually, then there are still good directories to be had.

We have our own directory search engine that uses the directory critic free list to search for directories that have been indexed highly for the keywords we want. Usually we find we only need to list in a couple of these directories to get strong backlinks.

Remember if you are scrutenising the links into your website THAT closely, maybe you need a different tool and strategy.

Yeah I 'm submitting the articles of my blog to top article directories. And I find it helpful especially in gaining your quality links.

Blogs are more recommended rather than articles.

You can also go the search engine route I know of about 60 search engines that you can get indexed in. It generates links and some traffic.

I sincerely doubt the backlink generation from directories and blogs.

You are dead wrong about getting backlinks from blogs. The reason why I jumped to pagerank 3 within one month of launching my website was because I had backlinks from pr3 blogs.

I do it from time to time, if I have some time to spare. But I do not spend a lot of time on this, since I am not 100 % sure it's worth it...

I used to, but in my niche there are only a few worth submitting left.

I don't do it anymore either. Traffic wasn't worth the effort and time i put into them.

Directories can be a good source of traffic to your blog, but in my experience the best free source of traffic can come from a service called 'Stumbleupon'. In just the first day I got > 20 visitors to my blog. Search for it on google :)

From what I've been told, your website can be added to that for free but I'm lost as to how you're supposed to do that. I've done the paid method and raking in 500+ views in 3 or 4 hours but the conversion whole a whole 0.00%.

After you sign up, and download the StumbleUpon toolbar for firefox, you navigate to the page you want to add, and click the 'I like it!' button on the toolbar. Then make sure that on the window that opens, you submit a 'review' with it, just write a few comments about the page. Also put in the details about the website like the title and description in the boxes. Add a tag that is related to the topic of the page (like 'internet') and click submit. That's it really, you'll get an extra 20-50 views very quickly and possibly more if you submit a blog.
