Anyone have experience with Google dropping the ranks beyond 100+ for a homepage that has been top for its terms for 7 - 8 years. Oddly, when i search the company name, the contact page is in place on the home page. Recently, I noticed the actualy physical path to the home page got indexed somehow. I renamed the home page and submitted a removal request of what Google this is a duplicated page. The website I have is a leading site in my industry and always has been. Oddly, traffic has grown by 10% after this issue run of site. The home page returns a 200 status. I ran the homepage through various tools to see if there are crawling issues (no problems). Nothing in webmaster tools for messages. I also checked any external links, which showed no problems. If it was a algorithm change, I'm sure i could get the home page to return first in results searching the company name.
YES, I DO HAD SUFFERED the same thing as you.. my homepage lose the keywords, but search the company name still on NO1#...but one month later, it come back. i had do nothing. just update the site regularly
Was it deindexed or did it simply drop heavily in the SERPS. Can you think of anything that you may have done to upset Google? Otherwise, it can happen. It can come back, after one of the next updates. Take a gander at Google deindexed for what do do.
The home page dropped heavily in SERPS. If you search the company name the home page is not returned but listed 3rd after expanding the results to show more results from the site. Any other terms are beyond 100+ that use to be on the first page. The only thing I have done was add a social networks bar and google's translation services on the lefthand side of the page. The toolbar I chose is safe (addthis) is what it is called. It's just odd that traffic was the highest it has ever been since May and the home page dissapears from SERPs early in the morning. ??? Not to mention, the toolbar and translate is run-of-site on 250,000 pages. So those services have not affected other pages that I can see.
Something interesting I noticed. I am listed in Google's directory and DMOZ, but if I search for my domain or company name in the Google Directory, Google does not return my website. Very odd.
I advise you to wait couple of days - as you cannot do anything right away. Maybe its the google dance here and you got in somehow.
I would recommend you check your link building pattern and strategy. The important is your anchor text. If you are focusing too much for certain anchor texts then overall of your link profile will not looking as natural. This is caused some of my website suffered from homepage ranking dropped somehow.
You're right about the keyword density in your BL, but how can you be penalized for over using your own name? If that was recent, I would say the home page was deindexed for some strange reason like server down or something, if so, it should come back
Aye, the home page wasn't unindexed, just is hidden from showing when searching for the company name and for most terms it was performing well for SERPS. I just reworked the home page making it appear a bit more friendly to the user. Basically, I rewrote the text as if I were describing my products and services to you face to face.
