Hi All I am trying to help my uncle out who needs to build a basic website for his consulting business. As he is just starting out, he doesn't want to outlay a lot of money as he just wants a basic website. I understand he will need to purchase: 1. A Domain Name 2. Web Hosting But when it comes to actually designing his website, what are his options, outside of paying someone to do it for him? Can you use a website buider package provided by the hosting company, or would you advise against this? As for the specs of the site, he is after the following. 1. A home page with some basic information on his consultancy business. 2. An About Us Page 3. A Contact Us page 4. An email address The type of site he is after would be similar to www.visionarysolutions.net.au but not neccasarily as big or complicated. Thanks in advance. Cheers Jake
Hi Jack Howard I not specialist for web designer.I recommend wordpress or drupal for your web,and waiting for other
I suggest him to start of with a free wordpress theme, base the system on wordpress, its very cheap and affordable. I advice him to put more money on marketing the site. later he can build a more advanced site with custom design for wordpress or even his own CMS if he really needs it.
Is there any harm in using an all in one website building / host package like http://www.crazydomains.com.au/website_builder/index.html
Since all you're looking for is a basic site, there's no need to spend money on website-building tools. There's just one, simple solution for you - Wordpress. It is not just a blogging platform and can be used as a static/dynamic website as well. Install Wordpress on your server, search for a free theme that suits your taste (thousands of options available out there!) and then start adding the pages you need: Wordpress has an option to make a static page as the home page, so you can use this feature to your convenience. Take a look at the Wordpress Codex for more information on this. If you want, you could put up a blog on your site as well, but if you're only interested in having a static website, you can hide the blog entirely from the site! Go for Wordpress; it's the best solution for such situations
If it is a static website then for a web deigner it is an easy task and he will be able to do it in one day very easily so if u r planning to get done through some proffessional then mail me and you will get all the services at very minimum affordable price. thanks..
I don't think Wordpress offers a very professional look so my suggestion would be to go for a static website and purchase some simple html editor tools. If building a website is too difficult then perhaps get someone to design one for him. I feel that these are basic expenses you need to make to start a business.
both static and dynamic sites could look good, it depends on the quality of the designs, if budget is the constraint, you can always have the option to buy some premium template and make limited edit, but a pro would do the job in better manner
I agree with peterlee88. But also understand how it is when one is starting out. Jake check you private message and let me know what you think.
Thank you everyone for your posts. I had a go at designing it myself using a free trial for a website builder, but i sucked terribly. I was spoke to my uncle about it this afternoon, and he mentioned that he just found out that a close friend of his also designs websites, so he is going to get her to design it for him. Thanks again and all the best.
I'm with everyone else here that said USE WORDPRESS if you're a beginner. AND, there are a TON of Wordpress themes already designed for you for free. It's the easiest, best looking way to get started.
it's true, I am continually amazed and the number and availability of totally free themes for Wordpress. Even the ones you have to buy are relatively cheap... i made my site with a simple elegant business theme that was $37, and it's also HTML5 compatible so it should be better for SEO. WordPress is putting all other CMS to shame.
