I know Google takes the duplicate content thing very seriously, but what does Google do if they find duplicate content? Google bans the site? It decrease the page rank of both sites?
it depends, first it put the site in sand box and if any action is not taken by the site owner then both the factors can happen
I think they will place some kind of penalty on your website. That may come in the form of lose of page rank or search rankings
They try to choose the best version and display that... The rest usually end up as a supplemental result. No and no. Hope that helps. Cheers James
Google does not take copy content serasily. Most of the time copy site performing well in the google. I wants to ask how i can save my site for copy by some one else.
Google has clearly mentioned that there is NO PENALTY for duplicate content. A lot of viral content on the internet is repeated many times on different sites. Google does not go on banning or penalizing these sites. It is the nature of the internet to share and duplicate information
There is no duplicate content penalty. Google’s major search engine function is to offer a customer the best possible results for a search, based upon the search term (keywords) that the customer has used in the Google search box. (Source: www.sitepronews.com) Tips to Avoid Duplicate Content Issues Even though the current thinking in the ‘duplicate content’ debate is that the stress is more on filtering than active penalty, yet if your site suffers from duplicate content issues, you might see a drop in rankings. Therefore, the best approach is to avoid the duplicate content issue. The top tips that can help you in this regard are: Avoid putting substantially similar or same content on different webpages of your website. Besides helping in avoiding duplicate content issue, it will also increase the chances of the different pages to be indexed separately Use the robots.txt file to block search engine access to those pages that you do not want indexed, such as ‘printer friendly’ versions of your existing webpages. Be consistent in internal linking to the webpages of your website. For example, when you are linking to your homepage, do not use www.sitename.com/index.html at one place, and www.sitename.com/Home.aspx at another. When other websites backlink to your website, they may use either version – with the prefix www or without it. You can specify your preferred method to search engines (Google) by which you want to be indexed. Be careful while syndicating content. It is better if you create different versions of the same article that you want to syndicate, and not post the same article everywhere. Last, but obviously not the least, always focus on creating unique content for your website, and keep updating it regularly.
