Bing Overtakes Yahoo! as the #2 U.S. Search Engine (source http://bit.ly/cifHU2)

What do you think, should we now pay more attention to Bing (I mean SEO)?
Will Bing seriously compete with Google?
With Bing & Yahoo deal, they (both) will represent almost 30% of all searches, compared to 65% from Google.

I, personally hope that they will share equally (or close as much as possible) searches, and what do you think or wish?
(please don't comment here like "Google is the best", it is not contributes to the topic)

    Hi,

Personally, I don't want there were such a competitor on search engine arena to contend against Google. But I don't think Bing (with Yahoo) would surpass Google in the foreseeable future since searching habit might be hard to change, IMO. :)

    all the best,

If so, there is still long way for Bing to get close to Google, but competition is healthy, and could be another source of traffic...

About 70% searches are made on Google and both Bing and Yahoo combine gives about 15% traffic, so there is no match but still Yahoo has its value, and still normal user not know about Bing and Yahoo Integration, so we have to give importance to Bing SEO now.

Yahoo now uses the Bing's search engine to power its search results in the US (and gradually for all countries) .
So it's not a choice on whether to optimise for Yahoo or bing. They are both the same

I don't agree that everyone prefer "googling". Yes it is become a habit, but it could change on day. don't forget who is behind Bing and how popular they are and what access to end user they have.

It will be good enough to Microsoft to incorporate Bing search to be part of OS, as some feature, index/publish content directly from your PC, share documents and etc. That will bump Bing's search share in one day. And many of us have habit of using MS Windows. Having MS Windows+Bing could create a new habit.

Competition drives all companies concerned to improve their product. So yes, I like Bing moving up. That's one of the free-market pressures on companies to keep on developing the best product for the end user.

I think its not a matter of overtaking at all. Yahoo Search is Bing. If Bing can form another partner up with FB, I would say Bing has a bright future to get at least 50% or more in search shares. However lets not forget Google has tons of other local search engines and have an inventory of top 100 most visited sites like youtube and so on. They also provide plenty of other services like adword where sometimes I forgot how Google is mainly a SE at the beginning.

Competition is the best thing for us all . Right now i can pick up a phone and yell at someone if my windows has a sudden crash . While Google puts you on a 7 day hold .

I don't know about overtaking but it sure would not hurt if Google goes back to it's basics . Atm they're trying to be the ACME of the Internet and we all know how well that one works lol .

I don't understand the media spin on this. Bing is to supply the search results for Yahoo. Already Yahoo has moved its search marketing to Microsoft's Adcenter. Is Bing's overtaking of Yahoo simply a publicity stunt?

I hope that Bing/Yahoo continue to grow on there overall search growth. I have been guilty of using google as my homepage for years until recently (2 months), i've set Bing.com as my homepage and have been quite pleased with it. I find that i'm giving a daily educational treat with there homepage image and facts. :)

When i want to perform searchs for seo purposes, i'll just click on my google favorite button.

I think we should encourage growth with the competitors so that google doesnt sit in its been comfy chair dictating how 'search' should be. I've read nothing but negative reviews when it comes to google support. Maybe they need a wake up call.

I have strong confidence that Google will still rule the internet as the top search engines. But, we can't tell what will happen next. Who knows? Maybe Bing can outrank Google in future.

Bing has a lot improved and delivered much better search results over Yahoo. They can even overcome Yahoo and replace original Yahoo search results with theirs. Bing has overcome Yahoo was not actual because of Bing is a much better search engine compared to Yahoo but Yahoo let themselves dropped instead.

P.S. I think Bing has a potential to compete with Google but not enough these days. They need branding and reputation for more 3-5 years to become a gigantic in my opinion.

"Bing Overtakes Yahoo! as the #2 U.S. Search Engine"

I get a kick how out of how they thought that was news. That's not news. That's to be expected considering Yahoo has given up on search lol! This means more webmasters are using Bing now.

Bing has only just begun. =)

It is great for all web users, as competition can generate improvement. I hope Google, Bing and Yahoo search can make more competition and release more new useful features.

And just what would you do differently for Bing?

I have not found anyone who really knows what works best for Bing. There are of course very many who will spew any garbage like 'more links, fresh content, keywords in domain' but none of these novices know. They just want to increase their post count.

Generally, it seems that if you do well in G SERPs you will also do well in Bing SERPs. I think that is the result of Bing tweaking things to replicate G results, as best they can. I believe strongly that that is what they should continue to strive for.

If that is done, you would not have to do anything different for Bing.
