Rules Are Members Allowed to Sell e-Books Which are Not Related to Money/Websites?

That is the description of the e-Books forum. It isn't specified anywhere what kind of e-Books are meant to be sold, but it seems to be an unwritten rule that only e-Books pertaining to making money online, or increasing traffic for your sites, can be sold in this forum. I understand that this is mainly due to the fact that DP is a Internet-related forum, but I was wondering whether members are allowed to sell e-Books of other genres, especially fiction. DP seems to be a good way for self-publishing authors to gain some exposure, so if selling fiction was allowed over here, it would be very useful to writers like me. Of course, I'm not expecting to sell hundreds of copies or anything, but it would be a quick way to sell a few copies. So could someone please tell me if this is allowed?

I don't see why not as long as you are the author (not reseller, but author) but I think it's a waste of time.

    And non-adult stuff only.

Hmm, I agree that it might not be a very good idea and the response might not be that great, but I'm on the verge of publishing an e-Book with Lulu, and was thinking maybe I could sell it here first at a lower price before going to Lulu so that I could get some quick feedback. I guess it's a selfish motive, but I figured that it might make a nice change from all the money-talk!

So you're of the opinion that this idea would be a spectacular failure over here? :)

Possibly.. Members here are interested in stuffs related to webmasters only. You might get a few sales, but should not expect a loot.

That's fine. While making a few sales is indeed part of my plan, what I'm mostly interested in is getting a good/quick review apart from selling a handful of copies. If DP helps me in that way, then I'll be happy even if I sell only 10-20 copies over here!

Heads up though, DP is fairly bad for redistribution, so I'd recommend you only sell it to reputed members if you want to prevent it from getting out.

Or individually put each users' name hidden in the ebook so if it does get out, you'll know who did it.

Woah, now that's a little scary! I'm not too worried, though. I'm not entirely sure it will be a success here, so I'll worry about that matter when it is a success :)

I can't agree whit you one this point . Personally I would buy a good e-book if it was top quality and if it had a reasonable price .

But opening DP to this type of opportunity might generate a great deal of spam advertising which in turn will lead to decreased quality of the e-book market and eventually to a implementation of rules to stop the spam . Maybe this kind of privilege should only be available to premium members ?

I'm sure a lot of members might have gotten this idea since the time DP was started but the idea never caught fire. So it's not going to be popular any soon, which means we don't have to fear for spam yet! Premium members have a lot of benefits already, no fair :p

What I'm trying to say is that if words get around that "DP ... great site .. to make big Bukc$$$...sell your (carppy) e-book ... get rich" . We might find ourself facing a tsunami of people that register for the sole purpose of selling their product on DP . Given the fact that we are already having a high number of newbs that spam post a staggering number of 5 worded engrish replies or shameless ads , I'm not sure that this is the best way to go .

Ofc the decision will be made by the admins which have a whole lot more experience in the webmaster business then the rest of us .
