    hello
does anyone here know if there are trademark issues with using
    ipad/ipod/iphone inside a domain name?
for example i saw that the mypadmedia.com site did not use the "ipad" word
but "pad" and i was wondering if there was a specific reason for this,
and regardless of this site is it possible to use these words inside a domain or do
Apple throw legal BS at such domain owners?

Hi Darkeralice, there are trademark issues related to internet marketing. Many imternetmarketers live by the risk and are using trademarks as Ipod or Weber2034 in thier domaine nemnames for better ranking in the search engines, but it can backfire on you.

I will never use a trademark in a privately build blog, without a written permission. I wont risk getting a notice letter from one of the big companies.

Make your blog rank through back links in stead.

    regards, Lasse

Yes, there is a specific reason why he used mypad, not ipad. Clickbank doesn't allow products that are infringing a trademark. They won't accept those. I know because I've tried to submit a couple like that, and I had to change the domain to a something not containing the trademark.

Furthermore, you can get into legal trouble with apple if you use such trademark terms. It's a classical trademark infringement. Many people get away with such domains, because there are so many of them, so Apple takes legal action only when it really bothers them. Anyway, better be safe than sorry, so avoid using such a term in your domain.

It's not "BS" - Apple basically has the right to take any domain containing iPod or iPad that has a connection to the products.

Just stay away from domains containing obviously trademarked terms.

Yeah stay away from using a domain that is directly infringing on their trade mark (ipod/ipad etc)... but from what I've read as long as you aren't blatantly trying to exploit Apple's trade name you should be fine getting away with using domains like mypadmedia.com
