I do this from time to time, and while I try to keep the subject related, I sometimes can't and my results have been good anyway, so I really don't think there is any harm in it.

Guys a link is a link is a link, it does not matter if its do-follow, no-follow or cak follow.

At also make no difference if you adding backlinks from unrelated sites when your starting out

crack on OP and comments as much as poss, try not to be spammy but if you are then make sure you spin the comments etc.
    GL with your site

Always maintain a link diversity get profile and forum links too and software directories as well. Because with blog commenting you can get a google slap and even get sandboxed

Blog comments are what make a blog interactive and social. The most popular blogs have a very interactive community who voice their opinions on posts frequently. It's that social aspect that makes blogs such a powerful component of the social web. People like to feel involved. Leaving blog comments allows readers to join in on the conversation about a topic that interests them.

Well I believe rather than buying links from unrelated directories and websites, blog commenting helps you get link weightage as well as good PR. Though the concept of PR is now facing a decline with google not updating PR regularly.

    Hey guys,

Let's be VERY careful of the advice we give here - several of you have given VERY bad and VERY INCORRECT information based on the original question...

The original question was will THEIR page rank increase if the niche of the blog they are commenting on IS NOT relevant to their niche but has a high PR.

The answer is NOT a simple yes or no...

Simply linking to a high PR site WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR PAGE RANK. YOUR page rank is determined by many factors, ONE FACTOR being your incoming links. And the comment that "Relevancy does not exist in Google's eyes" is both incorrect and dangerous advice. Relevancy has EVERYTHING to do with how Google looks at a site and determines factors such as Page Rank.

Simply commenting on blogs with high or low page ranks isn't going to effect YOUR page rank tremendously.

Basic search engine stuff -the purpose (and value) of a search engine result is to deliver content RELEVANT to the original keyword. Search engines make their money and earn respect based on delivering relevant information. You are rewarded for submitting VALUABLE, USABLE content to the Internet community - not because you're trying to manipulate the system by posting a bunch of comments on blogs. Google is very aware of folks "comment pimping" on blog sites simply trying to get backlinks. Think about it - how much REAL content are you providing simply because you posted a 25 word (or less) comment on a blog? Do you REALLY expect to be rewarded for this? Someone who entered "what's the best wine with fish" isn't going to care that you posted a comment on a high PR blog about dog food. Neither will Google.

Also, I think you're focusing too much importance on your page rank. I'm assuming that your goal is to make money from your site? If that's the case PR has nothing to do with you making money. Most of the sites I run that make a ton of money don't have a PR higher than a 2. TRAFFIC and CONVERSIONS are the more important numbers you should be worried about. If you have a PR 7 and you're broke, what have you really gained? When I see a $15,000-$20,000 campaign I couldn't give a rat's @ss what the PR on that site was.

I like the money much better.

Case in point - StomperNet only has a PR of 4 - the site makes millions of dollars, and ironically is all about getting rankings in the search engines. I don't think Andy loses any sleep at night because they're only a PR 4. And the subscribers who pay over $700/month don't really care either...

So be mindful who you're accepting advice from here in the forums, focus on what's really important and please - make sure you do your own due diligence to verify what some well-intended-but-misinformed posters give as "advice".

    Hope it helps...

As far as an unrelated link does that mean that even a link to a e-commerce blog or forum for an on-line store?

it will still give you back links but i dont want to recommend this to all. its not that effective if you want to make more traffics to your site.

It will raise your PR level, but you want to make comments on do-follow blogs with a PR rank equal to or higher than 4-5

It will still help to get PR. But not as good as if you comment on relevant blog. It will only support to get PR.

every single link your can obtain will help you. you want both related links and unrelated links, as you cannot control who posts your content on their site. natural link building comes from all over the web, not just from related sites.

Related content on blogs with your link is definitely better for high PR.

Amen, except the $15,000 bit :)

We're still obsessing about pagerank, surely what the OP is actually wanting to do is try to get relevant anchor keywords in on blog comments, i.e. to optimise his site for particular keywords?

Now, whether that is much of a tactic is a matter of opinion. I wouldn't waste TOO much time on that, but I also don't think nofollow dofollow etc. have much weight either way these days, and there must be SOME significance to such links. Now, it could be a negative significance if you are spamming, or it might be positive if you write a good, relevant comment, and add a well-anchored link, on a relevant site. Like I say, I wouldn't spend too much time on that, and you'd better not come near any of my blogs with any lame "This is a very informative post, I have bookmarked it for further reference" comment spam crap, cos I will spot it a million miles off and make sure Aksimet knows asap!

I will not recommend you to do any unethical work which you already know, why you are searching irrelevant data, just try to find the relevant blog and make the comment.

Couldn't have agreed more. This obsession with pagerank. You'll see some PR2 or 3 sites ranking in the 1st pages of the serps for very competitive kwds. So it's not exclusively about pagerank to get high serp rankings. (One of my sites is a PR0 and it often ranks really high for a very competitive kwd phrase.). And even then, it's not about rankings either. It's whether you're making good money - if that is your goal :p There's also paid ads, PPC campaigns, etc, etc, to bring great traffic and good revenue regardless of what your pagerank is.

In my experience it doesn,t make any difference, i've tried relevant and totally irrelevant backlinks sources it doesn't make even slightest difference. I have few test sites thats almost 6 months old and it's been doing well for mid competition keywords i am targeting with only spam links mostly from blog comments using scrapebox...

I know tons of sites with 20k no-follow backlinks from blogs and they seem to position 1 or 2 on google.
