That would explain why you're no longer making that offer...

yeah well when I did seo for other people the search engines were so easy it was joke, google had no sandbox, no real link filters, no duplicate content penalties, it was great

I will not bring up my seo, but if your a good seo you can guarantee first page rankings because that is what seperates you from the rest of the pack.So yes top 10 rankings can be had if the seo is a cut above the rest. I know i cause quite a raucus before on this subject but i couldnt resist. I said my peace

Sometimes if I have a potential customer who is really skeptical I will offer them a guarantee, what I will say is you pay me a 50% deposit which is non refundable and if I get 7/15 serach phrases into the top ten on Google then you have to pay me the other 50%. The search phrases are agreed before I offer the guarantee and I will never take it on unless I am sure that I can acheive those positions.

    - A company name is a keyword?

Can you please explain me bit more? I learn thing slowly :D

I used to get a few calls a week from scammers that would
say "Let me demonstrate what we can do. Go to Google and
type in "OEM radio control suppliers" "
And sure enough, their site, which is a directory called "OEM radio control suppliers" would come up #1!
And for just a couple thousand dollars they would put my site
on their directory which they already seeded with some big
names, implying that if Honeywell or GE thought it was worth
paying that much for a directry listing, it must be worth it.

Of course, being a Digital Point pupil I didn't fall for any of that.

Later I found that my own website was "seeded" in one of these
and I could measure the traffic coming from it.

One or two visits in a year was all I got, and these probably from robots.

    best regards
    wiz

Well, it actually happend to me once : owners of a local company came to me and they said they want to be # 1 for their company name (whatever it was, it is still a word, right? ) along with other kw ; Since nobody was targeting that particular word (yet), it was obvious that i could assure that ranking.
This is a rare exception when one could say : "hey, i can guarantee you will get that! ".
Targeting any word/phrase that shows zero interest it is obviously absurd ( unless you are releasing a brand new product that ,in the future, will attract attention ;) ).
Since no one can guarantee good listings, i actually wanted to present an exception to the rule, that's all :)

I always encourage the customers to go for quite specific search phrases especially if they have no Google PageRank, I recently did some work for a small mortgage company in Devon (Syncrus.com) this client had no Google PageRank and the mortgage industry is quite competitive, so rather then him going for phrases like bad credit mortgages, mortgage broker etc. I got him to go for these phrases mortgages Devon, commercial mortgages Devon and business financce Devon, the client is now ranked number 1 on Google for all of these phrases and he has had a good response. It helps when clients are realistsic about their expectations. I signed up two translation companies in one day the other week and both them asked me for the phrase translation, needless to say I had to have a little chat with them both about the search phrases.

If i had my own seo business i would guarantee ranking but you can never guarantee a #1 ranking. I think seo companies are pretty lame the only way i would do it is with website design attached. I would take there site make a lot of changes and charge them accordingly.

I say the hell with PR! It all depends on the KW's your shooting for and i would be very honest with my customers.

As of today i honestly believe that PR has nothing to do with serp placement

all seo experts are not same and it is possiable to get any keyword in top 10, if keywords are very big then it req some time and huge backlinks, Exp experts can show quick results as rhey update fast themself with algo and mostly they have big n/w for linkbuilding.

This is a case where specific key words work and are worth fighting
for. Or something like "las vegas vacations."

My business is completely different, as I said 65% of my
traffic last month came from key phrases that only had one
searcher each. I'm not going to fight over those key words.
But I can guarantee myself #1 for any one of them:eek:

I think most people here don't understand what a guarantee is.
Or are not defining it right. If the seo company doesn't come through do they...
    (1) get killed (2) get sued (3) get thrown in jail (4) give the money back (5) work until they get it
    etc...
the guarantee comes with a consequence if what they say will happen doesn't happen.

Since the backend of SERPs is highly predictable, all good seo companies worth their salt
would guarantee their work - as in give a refund, or work until they do what they say they will.

Yes, we're talking about getting on first page of google or yahoo.

I sure will guarantee it or your money back... but it will cost you... and the time frame
will depend on what the competitors have.
