I have just started using Wordpress for CMS and wondered whether it was any good for ecommerce?

Are there any disadvantages - or limitations - of Wordpress as a cms/ecommerce site?

WPcommerce is a good plugin if you want to use your WP as a eCommerce website. So if that plugin fulfill your requirements than you can go for it. It has several limitations...

If you need a fully featured eCommerce website with CMS than I will prefer to go for Joomla/Virtuemart. It's the best one and easy to use.

Wordpress was never really designed to be an eCommerce platform. WPeCommerce is great for selling one or two products into your local market. It can run into trouble however when you want to sell multiple products, in different markets, and have good marketing and CRM systems too.

The bigger your business, the more likely you are to need Magento or Business Catalyst.

WPEC isn't that great of an e-commerce platform if you're selling products with multiple variations. Even with the Gold Cart plug-in, you can really feel the limitations that WPEC has to offer.

Integrate both in our site. That's my choice: WP and OpenCart.

It depends, if you want just get started as fast as possible without looking for too many backend features, go for it, otherwise, if you plan to be online for the long run, i suggest you get a shopping cart script, there are so many out there and most of reputable hosting providers offer them for free ( via Fantastico or Softaculous )

It depends on what you need, but I personally feel that with the right theme and plugins, WP can be used as a e-commerce site.

Joomla is very good if used with virtumart properly. It can provide you all the things which most of the time online stores requires

It may has wordpress advantages such as easy management and SEO, but probably wouldn't suffice for bigger scale and complex transaction handling, some serious stuff like prestashop or magento would do the job

Well just use the one which are made for Ecommerce like zen cart . The things which are made for something are supposed to be used to that thing and makes it better then else it will just be worst .

I wouldn't recommend Wordpress for eCommerce. While it is possible, it is limited. I would suggest scripts more focused on eCommerce.

Personally I would go with Magento or OpenCart because Wordpress is a blog platform and isn't really designed for ecommerce in the first place...
Choosing Magento or OpenCart might save you a lot of headaches down the road though, once your webshop becomes bigger and bigger...

Both of these are FREE BTW ;)

I should suggest you to keep ecommerce and WP separate and link both to each other :)
