Hi all, I've found a script that friends could find useful to download their YouTube videos from. It allows users to extract the MP3 and use it on their iPod etc. Is this illegal? I want to buy the script and use it but I don't want it being closed down 5 minutes later.
There are many software programs that can do this. Some of them even offer free trials. Just search for FLV to MP3 converters
I have the script, just wanted to create my own service. I'm wondering whether it's illegal to allow people to download the MP3 from YouTube to my site.
Considering the fact that artists put their copyrighted material on there, I'd say it's illegal, considering the fact that it's an easy process where you simply change the format of some media that is publically obtainable, I'd say it's legal. Tbh I don't really know, but as mentioned there are a lot of those services and some are free.
I don't think this is illegal. As too many softwares, scripts & websites are offering these services.
I think you can't use them on commercial way, and is OK in personal way. You can check this tutorial about how to extract mp3 from youtube video.
That's what I thought. It was ok for personal use. As for not being allowed to download from their servers, aren't you effectively downloading the video by watching it?
It's not considered illegal until you download without permission someones work, but finding permission or the videos is difficult. Youtube needs a service that says yes/no to downloads on the video as a way for people to know, but even than that can be compromised.
you can just put a disclaimer saying to use this for downloading the legal stuff or something and then you are good to go.
