    Dear DP members,

I own a website and I am thinking of hiring SEO company assisting me marketing my website. and I was wondering

    • Can I trust this kind of companies?
    • And if yes, Where can I find a good ones?
    • Also, I am looking to outsource all SEO activities permanently to this company/individual. What would be the average monthly fees for such task?
    • Is there a SEO provider can accept being paid based on his performance like getting XX amount of USD after achieving predetermined target like 500 Unique visitor per day?
Your kind assistance is highly appreciated :)

Don't! Do it yourself! School yourself, online if necessary, trial and error, ask for pointers and tips from people who would know. Then after you go through the learning curve you know exactly what to do. You are in control and you can't blame anybody.

I did this myself because I started on a shoestring. I am sooo glad I did! Now, knowing what I know, I know that some seo people are idiots, some are liars, some are just too new to the game to let them learn and do a half-ass job with my business/website. And I would rather select my content myself, do all the other work myself, because I know who my customers are (where to reach them). I know my own business better than any outsider, so why trust an outsider?

When you do it yourself, you are likely to find interesting opportunities to make it better for your class/type of business that you would be most likely to discover or invent, since it's your own deal. You care since it's your own, more than some stranger at a keyboard with a shopping cart on his website. How would you know if they did a complete and thorough job, especially with the nuances relative especially to your type of business?

Put in the time. You'll be sooo glad! And, your chances for success are best!

If you want to go the lazy way with a blindfold on, then go ahead and permanently outsource this like you are asking. You will have better luck buying lottery tickets at your local liquor store!

I always did all my SEO by myself, but if your business is big enough then you can outsource.
Start off with a few options, then give them little projects to test out, then find the one you can trust.

I think you should do seo yourself, because seo service providers asks a lot of money. Or if your really can't do it your self hire a cheap freelancer, but not a seo company. Freelancer can make seo like seo company or even better. Good luck!

Thank you very much for your replay, and I think you have the total right. Actually I know what to do BTW I did a lot of social networking and marketing myself. But I am really busy that is why I decided to hire somebody doing this for me.

Thank you holeyness for your replay. What you mean by little projects? I really could use a schedule of tasks.

Great replay juozapuxas. Then where can I find a good freelancers doing this?

Hello magnettechnologies, thank you for your contribution but I can not trust a so called SEO company with Google PR 1. :)

    Regards,

Be smart. If you want to do it don't pay in advance and pay per objective. IE: $x to get website ranking first page, then $y to get it ranking top 5 and things like those.

That way you won't be scammed.

Yes, this is exactly what I was thinking off. Would you think you can find some SEO pro. would accept to be paid based on his performance?

I think its a great idea to try and learn it yourself. But sometimes you just don't know how or don't know all the secrets so that's when you hire a professional.

I would agree with the majority. School yourself on this. There are so many ebooks on this.

[Full Disclosure: I do own a digital marketing company (so I may be biased), I've been an entrepreneur for over 10 years, and I've raised $200K+ twice for my tech start-ups]

    Here's my $0.02 cents:

I wouldn't rush to learn SEO yourself unless you a) are inspired by it, and/or b) have no marketing budget.

Dealing with all the tasks of running a company with integrity takes time. There are a 101 different things you could learn to do yourself. Most entrepreneurs don't manage their time right and focus on the wrong things for most of their days. 80% consequently fail.

I'd say if you do have a budget for SEO, then interview the potential companies. And ask for 3-5 case studies and 3-5 references. You should practice this with most suppliers. Because most out there will not do the job you're paying for or will overcharge you.

if the products or the services that you are offering are very common then you will need seo company ,.. it can't be done with one resources . you need to hire more resources according to the competition of your targeted keywords

I think one Seo expert and four seo member are enough for your website. So here i will recommend you to hire SEO experienced person to do work on you website. I m sure, they will do their best, which SEO company can not.

The last time you were sick, did you see a doctor or decide now is a good time to learn medicine?

If there were 5000 hours in a day then prehaps everyone should do everything in their business themselves rather than hiring others to do things for them but the reality is first of all, there isnt an unlimited amount of time and secondly, your finite amount of time has to be spent on what gets you the best returns.

If you make $50 an hour being on the phone selling you wouldn't be making a wise move to spend less time on the phone to do link building which you could be paying someone $10 an hour to be doing (your losing $40 an hour).

Likewise, when you hire "professionals", you aren't just paying for the 5 hours they spend with you but the years of experience they are bringing with them.

Can you trust them? Of cause with any trade, esp unregulated ones, there are good people out there and bad people. You need to vet your suppliers carefully with references same as you would any other

Some will do work and get paid on results but expect them to want to know more about your business and PPC plans etc as it is a higher risk strategy for them.

You can find out all you need about SEO by doing a search for it and reading the top results, the thing with SEO is it is constantly changing, the SEO gurus, don't know anymore than anybody else who can do a search on Google, and if they can keep upto date with the search engine algorithms that's 90% of the work done
