Not my site nor am I asking for an appraisal. For a laugh I thought I'd pay a visit to the reg to see if there was some sort of rush registration by domainers ignorant of TM issues. Well I was partly right at least apparently someone was in the know (Steven Harberts) and registered it more than a year ago. Google Inc regged the .net .org .us and a few others leaving the less appreciative extensions behind, (even google thinks .biz ..mobi are crappy..lol ) It makes you wonder what they're registering today - google????.com for their next innovation in search, no matter how good bad or ugly it gets. So what do you think Steven Harberts fate is regarding GoogleInstant.com and do you think it was registered in bad faith? ROOFIS
LMAO that guy not bothered to setup a page in hosting and giving free money to hosting default parking. no surprise if an udrp filed and google lawyer get the domain
I used to own "Google Grants" domains and never had a problem. Still, as someone corrected me below, any inclusion of a TM can be considered infringement and cause problems. Best to always avoid that unless you are sure of what you are doing.
Any domain with "google" in it is going to be trademark infringement. It's a coined term and famous mark. You don't get around infringement by adding words to a domain name - that's a common mistake made by people who have no knowledge of IP law. The only exception might be a domain like "googlesucks" which could be protected under fair speech if it was non-commercial (took in zero revenue). Of course a trademark holder has to take action to recover the domain - which could be a UDRP and/or lawsuit.
http://paypalsucks.com/ good example! Yeah quite recently google started to sue sites utilizing 'google' in their names, mainly the scam sites with googleinstantpayday or googleincomenow where they claim you can 'post links to google to earn money' . These types of sites charge the victims credit card repetitively and at the same time cash in on google's brand. Microsoft also sued a software entrepreneur for registering hotmail typo's to lure in potential clients, again trying to cash in on that brand name. ROOFIS
But really, even if you have google in your domain name do you think you can be anywhere closer in search to the main "google" website. No one will ever no you....
Even if they did want to use the .biz and .mobi extensions (and they were taken) all they would have to do is file a trademark dispute for them... I'm sure Google would win.
