Checking for Backlinks is always a pain cause of 2 issues
    Non-Crawling of Backlinks
    Non-recognition of Backlinks

So your backlinking efforts can go to a complete failure.

Can some backlinking or seo pro suggest some of the best tools to check for backlinks categorized by nofollow and dofollow filter as well and should be reliable.

Its using yahoo API and so has its limitations. Can you suggest something else?

Quick Question: If you're being paid to submit forum posts...shouldn't you have your own reliable ways to check?

Yahoo is still the only game in town outside of the paid programs, most developers use information from Yahoo to derive their own data.

I use google webmaster tools to check backlinks, but I also use the cpanel of my host service to check.
My websites host on Hostgator, from the control panel, I can easily see the total data about vistis, unique visitors, backlinks, etc. Of course, I find it is a big difference between these two sources. But from Cpanel, it is more accurate, I think.
For example, I have already seen the backlinks on the cpanel, after several days, Google webmaster tools display them. I mean Google is a little late.

Google webmaster tool is not accurate. Nowadays yahoo site explorer is the best checker. You can also add some plugins (SEOQuake)

I also use this way. Use yahoo to find in links and find competitor's link, and boom, Watch Learn, and Modify

I think the one from Cpanel is AWstats. I think that is also not accurate. some links do not show at yahoo site explorer.

As Seo’s we should want to check our backlinks as it shows us who is linking to us. When we look at the backlinks we can see exactly what the search engines see. If we see 100’s of links pointing to our site but they are all coming from the same domain then we know that link is a bit more spammy to the search engines then if we only have 1-5 links coming that domain

The data on cpanel is from Awstats. I am not sure why you think the links not showing at yahoo but showing on awstats means awstats is not accurate. Is it possible awstats updates its data quicker than yahoo.

I also notice the number of links showing on awstats is close to the number showing on Market Samurai. And both these numbers of backlinks are more than that of yahoo dispalys.

I've also read about such occurrence as hidden backlinks. How to check them?
    Thanks

I also tried backlinkwatch many times. But I know for sure that many backlinks are not shown on it. What I also know is that these
links are indexed but don't show up. Till now I haven't found any accurate tool which accomplishes this. I wonder why nobody seems
to be able to develop such a tool. I am sure the demand would be high.
