This is a great article - I really identify with this. The business of SEO is all about keeping up with the times and even innovating new and creative ways to achieve success in organic listings/results. Stay informed, read blogs and forums often and try to experiment a bit!
So far, there's no telling what effect Instant will have on long-tail searches. Just because they can, doesn't mean everyone will interrupt their typing and pick one of the displayed results. Also, some super-long tail searches might consolidate into shorter-tail searches. But that's only one of many possibilities. Remember that it's PEOPLE using the search engine. They don't mechanically react to a new feature.
probably i too think that SEO can never ever be dead.Just try to adapt new situations and your methods with change of process.
What's the big deal about Google Instant? People who is searching for a long term keyword, such as "how to cure acne" will probably keep waiting until the results for "how to cure acne" appear. And they will be the same they were before the instant search update. Maybe what some IM fear is people getting distracted by the results Google shows before the finish typing. In most cases, I don't think this will happens. If a user is using a long tail search term it is because he/she wants the results to be the more accurate, so he/she probably will wait until Google shows what he/she is looking for.
I think people fearing that SEO is over with this new thing, is silly. There will always be SEO as long as there are search engines. You just got to change up your game a little. I don't really do long tails much so I guess it doesn't affect me AS much but even so, come on don't lose hope, just examine your keywords and see how you could tweak things to work out better with the new system. Remember it is something everyone is dealing with so we're all in the same boat.
Always write contents specific to user not for search engine. You will not have to make much effort for ranking the site if your site and contents is visitors specific.
