What would you consider a good percentage range for keyword density?

Right now, I'm at 17%. The first page I checked said I'm overdoing it. Before I modify my article, I want to check with you guys.

    Thanks in advance!

    That's probably way too much.

Honestly, keyword density is a thing of the past. Focus more on other on-page SEO techniques. Write your content so it is natural.

I think density does matter to some extent, don't focus too much on it as usasports says.

17% is too much and will be flagged as keyword stuffing/spam. Try not to exceed 3% so as to make it look natural.

17%? So around 1/5 words is your keyword? That's insanely high.

I agree with usasportstraining that density as a number isn't really used. But I can't imagine how you could have coherent sentences on that page, and that's what Google focuses on - whether the page is written for readers.

They've crawled billions of websites and employ the most brilliant programming minds in the world - they know what natural sentences look like. If you have a density of 17% you probably don't have a lot of words on the page, and words are what will get your website coming up. Not just your keyword, but variations of it, 2, 3, 4, and 5 word phrases that contain your word.

Write a coherent page designed for readers, not search engines.

Though slightly redundant, I assure you my article was coherent. Thank you for the advice. I made some changes.

For a normal 300-500 words article I try to post keyword once in the Title, then once in the first sentence and then 1-2 times more somewhere in the text. I think 1-3% density is optimal. I got many websites on the First page in this way.

If you are submitting your articles on quality sites then they only allow one keyword only 2 to 3 times in whole article body content and the minimum length of the articles must not lesser then 350 words.

But if you are talking about keyword density on your site then leave this factor from your mind and try to write the natural content which is useful for the visitors.
