What a -600 google penalty looks like (from google webmaster tools)

Figured some of you might find this interesting. Basically the story behind this screen shot is that one of my sites got hit with a -600 google penalty. The entire domain got the penalty and the domain was pushed into supplemental results. The penalty lasted about two weeks and was lifted after I removed the ON PAGE black hat seo. During those two weeks I pretty much didn't show up in any serps. I'm gonna admit, it hurt pretty bad but after I came back on fire. Appears that google didn't discount any links to my site. Thats one thing for certain, make sure you obey the on page google rules by the book because google will definitely slap you if they find something shady.

haha definitely not going to say specifically but I installed a plugin for the site that did some specific things to the site. I unistalled it and that was good enough for google to put me back into the serps.

    hi Killer2021,
thanks for the screenshot but can i ask, the blue and yellow line .... did you create this using filters in analitics to show us the difference in traffic like a before and after? or did the yellow line automatically show up when you was hit by the penalty?
Im trying to understand, when a site is hit by a penalty, does google show it in analitics? or are you guessing you have been hit because of the drop in traffic?
How do you know you was hit by a penalty???

It is extremely rare that SERPs return to normal immediately after 'fixing' the problem. There is normally a long wait.

G does not normal react quickly because if it did, we could all try different things and see the direct effect of what we did.

Can you tell us the approximate date that you made the BH change, when you saw SERPs tank, and when you removed the change? The graph shows traffic, but does not really plot your website changes.

The screenshot is from the webmaster tools, not analytics.

    https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools

No it wasn't that. The plugin I used place backlinks on my site and in exchange it gave me backlinks from other sites. Obviously this plugin wasn't coded too well since google penalized me pretty quickly. It isn't that link exchanges are bad but when you automate it like that google has the ability to check for that code and if it finds it, penalty soon to follow.

Took two weeks for me but if you never fix the problem you will never get unblocked. Basically I placed the plugin on my site and then 48 hours later, banned. Then I unistalled the plugin like 24 hours later and then two weeks from there back into google.

It depends on how serious the offense is. The penalties can be like mine a temporary -600 serp ranking all the way up to permanent banning from the indexes. If you get the penalty all you can pretty much do is fix the problem and wait it out.
