Wonder what is the fix for this...
Some of our sites are well indexed within 24 hours by Google, but not appearing in Yahoo / Bing search after a month or so.

    Any advise?

submit your sitemap to yahoo and bing... or simply click on the link present in yahoo and bing search to add your site.

    Hope this helps...

Yahoo directory listing is $300 or so... some sites is worth doing so, some not. It's gotta be a better way...

URL submission is different from sitemap submission.
If you have submitted sitemaps , then stay back and build backlinks in the meantime.

Google (being the best) has a quicker algorithm when it comes to indexing. Bing (Yahoo uses Bing) is a bit slower so this can take a while. Do as they proposed to you but no need to worry

When doing SEO you should be thinking more along the lines of long term success. I wouldn't start looking for what your rankings are untill your around 2-3months as that time could be spent creating articles / bl's / or anything else that would actually be making money.

If you deserve a spot on the search engine than you will get it but you just have to work at it every day.

well, it's not that I worry, I am rather trying to understand differences in their algorithms.

I launched 2 sites at the same time, with, to a certain degree, similar competitiveness of keywords, build approx similar amount of backlinks... One is top 5 of Yahoo / Bing (with 10 times more monthly searches), one is not indexed at all (an it has less searches for the keyword)....

so, I wonder... where is the catch...

Yahoo and google have different algorithms so they provide different indexed for your site. Just focus more on onpage optimization because Yahoo gives more weigh on that.
