Hi there! I have some questions for those who knows. My qestion is how I can make Geo target my *.com site for some state or city? Sure, about Webmaster Tools I know, but there we can switch only for USA. But if I want my site to rank for example in NY but I don't care about it's positions in LA. What shoul I do, how can I point Google that my site belongs only for NY? May be I have to get links from *.ny.us sites or have I get backlinks from sites which are geo targeted to USA and it doesn't matter what kind of links are pointing to me? I know about IP mapping, that Google use it. But may be somebody knows about weight of links from sites on the same IP region and from sites in another IP region. May be you know some Google recomendations or some experiments with such type backlinks. I'll be very thankfull for your answers! Many thanks!
You can play with Title tags of your website. For EG:- SPA services NY. Now with description use this keyword in sentence. This way your website will be GEO targeted.
in addition to getting links from *.ny.us sites, the most important thing is to use 'ny' or 'new york' in your keywords. also use it in your meta title tag, your desc. while doing backlinks, use your geo locations in the anchor text. hope this helps
Best way to using keywords of targeting location in your web page's Title,Meta's and constant. For example your targeting location is NY(New York) then use this location with your site title and contents.
Thanks to all for your answers. About on-site optimization it's ok. But, for example. There are two sites. One of them is my, second - my competitor. I'm in NY, he is in LA. I'm creating links from local sites with *.ny.us with my keywords and adding NY. He creates backlinks with only keyword without geo. It's like I buy links 'pizza delivery New York' and he - 'pizza delivery' Whose links will be better if Newyorker types 'pizza delivery' in Google? Will my local backlinks be better than his all the US backs? Thanks!
My 2 cents I understand the local of your site host may have a minor impact on geo ranking, expect such factors to have greater influence as google kicks up local search. Of course you want to name the state and cities in your content, and have a physical address in the contact page. Being registered with google local so you show up in a 10 box map is easy pickings, I believe you can still use a P.O. Box service "suite #" address to get into google local, though they are kicking up the monetization, recently dropping the free site link.
Hi friends, I have a doubt regarding geo target. We have a website .com domain, but our site is located in australia and we targeting Australian viewers. Also we've set priority to Australia in Google Webmaster. We want to rank top in Google Australia. Kindly suggest what we have to do, please guide us
Read the above conversation & U may got your answer... You have already set your Geo location in google and its time for offpage optimization... Follow other suggestion as given above.
Thanks for the answers guys. But there is still some questions. I look at this video and don't understand something - http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=62399&hl=en Can I target my site to the some State or City in Google Webmaster Tools? For example, I can target my site in Yandex Webmaster Tools to the some state or city. And in this City I can have good rankings but in other city people will not see my site because I don't want this. For example I work with delivery service that works only in my city but not in some other. So I can point Yandex that it have to rank only in this city. And this results are on the organic SERP not on maps (on maps too, but this is another thing). I'm interested in organic SERP. So may be some of DPs know how works local search in US and how to point my site in GWT to some city like in Yandex. Like an solution we have in Ukraine domains like *.od.ua And this shows that site belongs to Odessa-city in Ukraine and it will not be shown in search results in another city. Do you use widely the same domains in US and other your native countries? Many thanks.
