an0n, your thumbs code works perfectly, thanks! For those not confident with code, you simply replace the line in thelink_f.tpl file in the templates folder that refers to the old alexa thumnail link. You can use notepad or Editpad lite:
I have the thumbs working but they are not linking back to the site. Can you post the code to do this, thanks.
Thanks for all the info here! I was checking out Girafa.com and found out that they have a free service which is really easy to implement, check out https://tserver.girafa.com/sec/signup.acr?fp=1 Hope it helps...
Webshotspro.com - Screenshot is in job queue. There is a total of 118 jobs, and 117 ahead of you. Well that is going to take forever..
for anyone interested i provide a similar service and its free.. You'll need to go into the private galleries and create yourself one, after that you can request creation of as many thumbs as your heart desires.. ps. play around to work out how it works, or you could just ask me.. Site: www.RipThatPage.com Original thread: Thumb generation free web service Regards LiquidBoy
The free service is currently being used by digg.com and as you can imagine they generate a lot of new jobs in the system. We have just finished implementing our queueing system and we are wrapping up testing on our members section. Starting today all incoming jobs will have a priroity set, all free thumbs will be flagged with a low priority, leaving queue slots open for registered members. Also any urls submitted from our homepage take queue priority over the rest. Registered members get access to lots more size options and we are currently beta testing realtime thumbnail generation with selected member accounts. (Meaning you request an image, and we hold the HTTP connection open until that image has finished generating, then send the thumbnail) We have also started rolling out a PHP script which would allow webmasters to cache the thumbnails on their own servers... Lots of exciting things are happening, and our servers are cruising along right now processing screenshots. If you need website screenshots, you know where to come... -WebShotsPro
The thumbshots service I have mentioned I'm working on is now in beta and betatesters are welcome to test it. Everything except paid accounts is fully working so there is no risk in testing it on your sites. See this for more details : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=146881
Has MSN given permission anywhere to do this? I would love to display thumbnails in our forum member profiles.
ResaleBroker, You have our permission to use webshotspro thumbnails anywhere on your site. http://thumbs.webshotspro.com/url/-any url- Code (markup): BTW, I like your use of the website thumbnail as your forum avatar. I am going to use that more often. It's great, esp on webmaster sites. Thanks!
Thank you. I have configured our sales training forum to use your thumbnails in Member profiles. They look great! Thanks again.
I wrote a MOD that eliminates this stuff altogether and is admin controlled! bwahahaha yes, I have been busy busy busy.
I am also curious about the msn verdict as http://www.webshotspro.com <img src="http://thumbs.webshotspro.com/url/-http://www.google.com-"/> <img src="http://thumbs.webshotspro.com/url/www.google.com"/> Code (markup): doesn't work for me
A workaround is to implement "SnapShots" from snap.com as I end up doing on my directory site Star-Compass.com. Is easy to install (just add a piece of code) and it shows the home page of the site when you mouse-over the link, with no further maintenance needed. Ray
