You must have good quality backlinks from other website and you must post good content related to that.

Of course it will be a primary reply that it will depend on the links if it's a quality link or not but let me just put an input on that topic where website design and the content may have a factor to consider to have a great page rank given by Google. Also consider that it does not represent all of your website coz' it's not a website rank, it's a WEBPAGE rank.

Right.. Google page rank solely depend upon the no. of backlink form higher PR sites to your site...
High Page rank doesn't mean good ranking. Its just one of many factors of ranking which google consider.

There are more than hundred factors for giving the PR to your site as the experts says. But in my knowledge the most important factor deciding your PR is the quality inbound links pointing to your site.

If you have work to increase the popularity of websites and grab quality and do-follow back links for that then it will play very important role for deciding your PR.

What nonsense! Can you show me one expert that actually says that?

PR is based totally on the backlinks to a site.
The ranking of a page is based on more than 200 things.

You have to stop confusing the two and spreading myths.

Google want quality links not quantity links. So you have to build quality links for good Page rank.

Backlinks come first... the number of searches which lead to your website is the second criteria... Content comes third!

Recently, Google also said that the SERP Rankings also change according to the speed at the website loads.

Backlinks are no longer the number one criteria for the improvement in the Pagerank of the site. I'd say Authority and to a certain extent, traffic matters. So also do OBLs(the less the better) and many other factors.
Here is a vid about pagerank updates recently uploaded at Google Webmaster Central that could be of some use :

    It's not a nonsense nor a myth Dear, It's a fact.

You can say this thing that back-links are the main factor for the PR but these are not the only and complete factor for deciding PR. And we know that Google only shows the fraction of your total back links you have made for your site, can you tell me why? why Google not considered all the back links, we have developed for the site, And now you will say it takes only the quality and theme base links, but I have notice that, it takes sometimes PR0 links too and other search engines like Yahoo and others also count those, why so?

So why it is, means there is a set matric or Algorithm, which has some factors to for deciding your page rank.

Another thing as I am talking about the expert says, check out here are the proof - I think Mattcutt from Google would be a genuine expert in your views. Check out here what he says -

"Really, I wouldn’t worry about it–I’m not even sure myself. At some point we take our internal PageRanks, put them on a 0-10 scale, and export them so that they’re visible to Google Toolbar users. If you’re splitting hairs about the exact date that backlinks were taken from, you’re probably suffering from “B.O.” (backlink obsession) and should stop and go do something else for a bit until the backlink obsession passes. I highly recommend keyword analysis, looking at server logs to figure out new content to add, thinking of new hooks to make your site attract more word-of-mouth buzz, pondering how to improve conversion once visitors land on your site, etc."

here are the link, you may be updated on various things about PR - http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/more-info-on-pagerank/

Or may I be confused - as Agent000 says, but I think or as I have noticed or researched there are also other things too involved deciding your page rank. coz we know that there are various factors to rank your site in the SERPs and the page rank and links are one of them, Well You will be updated about what you have in your mind and I suggest also read the comments lies there, you will be updated.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I will type this really slowly for your benefit:
Backlinks are the only think that Google factors into PR.

You need to be more careful about what you are reading. All Matt Cutts is saying is not to obsess on PR and worry about other thinks. You are still confusing Google trademarked term PageRank (PR) with teh ranking of a page.

Have you not noticed that NO ONE in this thread is agreeing with you. Why not go to a place like WIkipedia and see how PR is calculated: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank or even Google own description of what PR is:
    http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html

Whne you have read them, you are welcome to come back and apologise to everyone for getting it wrong.

Ok dear, may I be confused as you are saying and If I am wrong than I have no hesitation to accept it, But I want to satisfy first. as you have told me and give me the link to read before, I read that and found some interesting to what I was talking about -

"Google assigns a numeric weighting from 0-10 (but 0 is used just for penalized or non analyzed-pages) for each webpage on the Internet; this PageRank denotes a site’s importance in the eyes of Google. The PageRank is derived from a theoretical probability value on a logarithmic scale like the Richter Scale. The PageRank of a particular page is roughly based upon the quantity of inbound links as well as the PageRank of the pages providing the links. It is known that other factors, e.g. relevance of search words on the page and actual visits to the page reported by the Google toolbar also influence the PageRank. In order to prevent manipulation, spoofing and Spamdexing, Google provides no specific details about how other factors influence PageRank."

Note:- Note this roughly based and the lines in black as involvement of other factors, why so?

now what is that, why they are not combined agree on only the back links.

Now read this and give your comment here also on but exact, It is copied from your link here (from the description part) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank and clear this thing.

The above description can be put in one phrase ' high quality relevant links' matter for Page rank. All criteria are based on links only.

Co-founder of Google Larry Page himself outlines the following potential influencing factors in his patent specifications for PageRank:
    Visibility of a link
Position of a link within a document
    Distance between web pages
    Importance of a linking page
    Up-to-datedness of a linking page

You can see all the criteria are based on links only . so inbound link is the factor that influences Page rank, though what kind of links are counted depends on the above mentioned criteria.

I know that Back links are the main important factor that affects your Page Rank most but as the Many changes has been taken place after the first alog was introduced by the Google for the Pages Rank and Google always updated their alogs. So form the strating various changes has been done in the first designed original Page Rank Algo. Various other factors are also included in it in my opinion.

Another thing we are not discussing here not about only the back links or inbound links pointing to your site but also we are trying to know that "Is only the back links are the only factor for deciding your page Rank or is it affected by some other factors also apart form the Back links."

Drawbacks to this is that really a horse crap site could get tons of links and rank well with a crappy site. The way it is I guess. Hopefully they will continue to come up with a better means of ranking. They will never please everyone. I don't know what the perfect solution is, but the majority backlink related is not perfect either. It can easily be manipulated too.

it depends on the back links of any site. if you work on your site and increase quality back links to your site, you will always get increase in PR. but when you have low quality links or your links get deleted or you stop increasing quality links, then your PR may down
