I was just wondering when is advertising enough? When do you or do you ever get to a point where you've done enough marketing to leave your business in 'cruise control'? Anybody knows?

Well, not really ever, or until you are satisfied with the number of hits per day or number of members. Your page views may go down if you stop advertsing if some of them come through links. But unless your site is like myspace, never stop!
    Thanks

    Yeah, marketing is never enough.

If your site has poor traffic you can't stop at a given time. If your site is quite popular you should not stop to avoid throwing away what you got.

You always have to keep marketing and advertising your site. It is a continuous process.

You will always market and advertise your site, but if you find a way to "flip the funnel" and have members of your site promote your site for you, you will find the need to advertise a bit less.

When you successfully established your brand then marketing is enough IMO, then you need to just look for other method to retain your brand such as sponsoring some events, celebrity ads etc.

business is a long journey. so advertising must go together with your business. Advertising make your business still breathing. even you have reached success, still continue with advertising

Haha, probably not. But I can bet that Google is still working hard to keep themselves at the #1 spot without Yahoo taking over.

You would still want to advertise even with that amount, backlinks are crucial to leaving your website in "cruise control" as they will allow you go up in Google and increase your SEO, if you are just advertising via a PPC program it is generally not sustainable.

I think most people answered correctly, you never really just leave it alone. I think the benefit is though, is for example, I have a website right now that does quite well on the internet. I spent quite a bit of time getting it up and going. However, I still have a day job and was sent on travel for the last three weeks. During those three weeks I was working a night shift and really unable to spend much time on anything internet marketing related. During those three weeks orders still came in, I spent a little bit of time processing those orders. Now that I am back I have started looking for new ways to grow the business.

McDonalds probably started out as a small local store with an emphasis on getting food out fast. They became well known in that community and expanded. Today, they are well known across most parts of the United States but are now growing in Africa according to a TV show I watched yesterday. They could sit back and watch the money roll in without really reinvesting into new franchises, but they choose not to because they are in the business of making money. The same concept applies here just on a much smaller level. :)
