I think Alexa knows what they are doing. You just have to be patient, and keep on optimizing. Nevermind the ranking of a site. Focus on your content, and serving your visitors well...
perfect example here .. this is why alexa is a joke http://www.ou.thefblike.com/popular 500 people are online at any given time yet their alexa is 617k
I don't check my alexa rank often but the last ad company I tried to become a publisher of asked me to have a alexa rank of 100k or lower before joining them.
Which when compared to my forum with only 150 on (and most of them bots) ranking in at 136k really shows it's humor! If anyone in their right mind thinks there is any merit to the Alexa Rank, they really need to buy my forum for a couple of grand...imagine the Alexa rank my site would have if I actually promoted it!
Alexa is not waste of time but alexa ranking matter some time. Benefits # As opposed to Google's PageRank, the lower your ranking number, the better. # It helps Webmasters and advertisers see the real marketing potential of your Web site. The better your Alexa rank, the higher they may be willing to bid to buy advertising space on your Web site. # Personal pages or blogs are also ranked in the same way as ordinary Web sites. They will even get a distinctive mark (*) # Because Alexa ranking helps you with information about your Web site, it is a good instrument for search engine optimization.
What would be the point??? People don't come to your site because of the Alexa ranking, they come for content. I don't think Alexa is useless though. It's useful to look at the information they have on your site, as well as looking at info for someone else's site.
yah, sometimes I doubt what Alexa shows I trace the site I once SEOd and now no one doing SEO on it but the alexa ranking is getting better and better even though no one working on it but some of the ranking drops and PR drop for sure.
You see.. Alexa rankings are calculated on the basis of the people having Alexa tool bar or plug in or add on in their browsers... So, they cannot be accurate... but, they just help you get a picture of the traffic of your website!
