I found an AWESOME domain name worth a good high $xxx-to very low $x,xxx. I was SO happy. I didn't have any cash at the momment so I decided I'll come back sooner or later and register the domain. Came back and it's REGISTERED! Point of the story: People see what domains you look up and register them if they are value. DON'T LOOK UP DOMAIN NAMES UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MONEY! The end!
It depends who you look up through. NetSol for example... no away are they stealing research. See: http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1991365,00.asp
What a sad sad story! So, um... how does one go about looking up the domains that other people look up? Have you tried doing that yourself, or have you only just learned that it's possible? I know - it sounds like an evil sneaky thing to do, doesn't it? By the way, it was not me who stole the domain name from under you Truth! Cindy
I looked it up through GoDaddy(respectful business) but I believe I type'd the domain into Google.com(respectful business). So somehow someone grabbed it unless one of them business's robbed me? Lol Well I appreciate you telling me it wasn't you Cindy who registered it, I got about millions and millions of more people to question now :-p Hopefully I can find the owner and buy it cheap. Doubt it, I'm sure he knows the value of it(way out of my league).
interesting article been on that situation before well.. live must go on.. just try to forget it ever happened
I've had this happen to me before, once with godaddy and once with instantdomainsearch. It really p*sses me off how people can be that cowardly - if you don't have the imagination to come up with good domains yourself, just f*ck off and get a job you CAN do. Anyway, now I've had my little rant... there's a chance the person who registered/stole it will drop it after the 5 day grace period. This happens very often - just make sure you don't visit the domain and do NOT make an offer for it if the new owner has made it available for purchase. Often these thieves reserve the domain, wait for the 5 day grace period to expire then if nobody has expressed an interest, they just drop it and don't have to pay a penny. So basically, keep checking the whois - you might get lucky!
Dont try to Buy Domains On Yahoo! - By Anvesh Hello Mydear Friends... Just Yestertday Iam searching on yahoo for two domains ...That two Domaisn are just yesterday available .. and iam decided to buy the both today when iam trying to buy the both it said already taken...Iam very surprised...and Iam goto whois and search for those on it..and now iam very surprised... If ur planning right now..try Yahoo... Otherwise leave the yahoo and search for good* registrant... ThankYou
Well there's a coincidence. According to the whois for the domain I had stolen, the nameservers are: Name Server: NS.2.NAME.NET Name Server: NS.1.NAME.NET Hmmmmm!
lol same here I had this great idea for a business for online advertising and I came up with such a Hot hot domain name : www.hotvertise.com I searched it on godaddy it was available came back next day and poof its gone
Interesting, your domain has been parked at Sedo whereas both mine and Anvesh's have been parked at Name.net - so I guess it's not the same people who are stealing all the domains. Your domain (hotvertise) is also VERY similar to the one I had stolen - spooky!
one of mine went on godaddy I searched, a very very unique domain, godaddy registered it( on the whois details).
Amed, is this the same whois info you got? Registrant: Phoreign LLC 2301 Collins Ave Miami Beach, Florida 33139 United States Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com) Domain Name: HOTVERTISE.COM Created on: 12-Apr-06 Expires on: 12-Apr-07 Last Updated on: 12-Apr-06 Administrative Contact: LLC, Phoreign 2301 Collins Ave Miami Beach, Florida 33139 United States 3053206201 Fax -- Technical Contact: LLC, Phoreign 2301 Collins Ave Miami Beach, Florida 33139 United States 3053206201 Fax -- Domain servers in listed order: NS1.SEDOPARKING.COM NS2.SEDOPARKING.COM
One way to work around the problem is to get a free account with domaintools.com. They allow you to do a search for a search term, and show you wether or not the most common extensions (.com, .net, etc) are registered or available. Another thought: there are thousands of webmasters looking for domains every day. Maybe it's a coincidence. But for sure: if you find a domain you want, buy it instantly!
I know I'm late to the party here... It's well documented that godaddy has a business partner that they slide domain name queries to. That partner puts a 5 day tentative registration on most every domain name search made. After 5 days, they should be free again. Apparently they are able to get a refund for their registration within that timeframe. Just an FYI - I use namebargain.com and have for a while. They're not as cheap as some of the others, but I have had zero problems like this when searching for domain availability.
Having given all the posts in this trhead another thought, I went back to check a name that was recently registered just while I was doïng research on it. It was now free again, so I registered it. I guess maybe I did look it up at Godaddy after all, or even domaintools is in on the game. Thanks to all of you for contributing to this thread! I've got that name now! In the last month I've had some outfit in the carribean put up ppc pages on my server, making money off my seo efforts, I found my content stolen by a reputable multi-million dollar company, and now this.. Am I naïve or is competition getting more cut-throat by the day?
waltergropius I just did the whois and it is the same see it was registered on 12th april on 11th is my best friends birthday I decided Il go over to the party and think about this new business model when I came to register the domain poof gone
Yahoo's domain name search has problems: sometimes it will tell you that a domain name is available, when in fact it isn't. It just serves to get you excited for nothing (made me think bran.com was available, among others) Plus, I'm not sure if it's possible to transfer a domain away from Yahoo
Avoid these major companies like Yahoo. I would say, GoDaddy (not so recommended), or namecheap (yes) would really be preferred choice. Alternatively, you might not know that these guys may be collecting statistics to ensure they buy down the domain before you do.
