Once you’ve purchased and activated Office 2007, you can redeem your Office 2010 upgrade online. You have the choice to download Office 2010 free or purchase a DVD for a fee.

Yes, you can get the MS Office 2010 for free if you've purchased MS Office 2007 but there are some limitations so please do check them.

Surely there must be something that you must have missed out on... There can be discounts for sometime, but can't be free

I don't think it's really worth the money to upgrade to Office 2010. What's so new there?

The problem with upgrading is that you end up having to convert your file back to older versions of Word when you share files which is quite a hassle, I haven't yet upgraded to 2010 but expect to do so within a year. The jump from 2003 to 2007 was pretty large, and I do love the new functionality - I hear 2010 is equally as big a jump.
