No more search traffic(Google) to my website

Discussion in 'Google' started by nokia3310, Aug 25, 2010.

I have been watching the traffic analytics of my website pretty much every 6 hours and i have noticed a HUGE reduction in the amount of web traffic from google search since yesterday.

I usually have a ton of traffic from google search like 300 pageviews a day and all of a sudden the traffic from google search reduced drastically.

What can cause this kind of thing. I have searched on google and my site is still indexed but the traffic reduction shows something is wrong.

Aside from checking if you website is still indexed, have you checked if your keywords are still ranking fairly well? Your rankings might have dropped.

Well you should at least know what your keywords are - those keywords that give you traffic. What kind of analytics are you using?

Exactly, perhaps one of the most basic things that had happened. If you're using google analytics, you can observe pretty well the traffic coming from those keywords your site had rankings. However, if checking the ranking (manual or automatic) returns positive. That means you still have the position, however the analytics shows that you have no traffic from the same keywords where you acquired the traffic from the previous days, then people might have not search the term within the span of time. Your You may want to look at the trend of the keywords you had ranking at google trends. Or, maybe those people searching the same keyword might be the same people who already have landed on your site, however did not consider revisiting your site due to some factors observe (ex. content quality or lack of content). Other things to look at are the title and description of your site on the listing. Your competition might have restructured theirs (ex. making it appealing to surfers) taking majority of your conversion share.

There are other possibilities I could thing, but above are the most prominent reasons why it is happening.

I understand what you mean, but there is definitely something wrong. This kind of drastic change means something changed, and i am sure its not about my traffic been shared or same visitors. There is no such thing, there are billions of visitors in the work and my website appeals to global audience not local audience.

What other thing can be wrong, because i honestly did not do anything wrong at all.

Research on what your competitors are doing and gather relevant backlinks from related sites. Was there a fall in the rankings?

Yes there was a fall in ranking. Even searching the name of my website, without the .com was ranked 7th, something i rank 1st in since i started the website. Even the first day i was indexed i ranked 1st. Something definitely happened.

My question is why does Google take drastic measures without even informing the website owner?
At least if something happened they suppose to inform me what i did wrong, but nowadays they just pull the plug with no explanation at all.

Check your popular keywords on which you received lots of visitors. Try to check the rank whether the keywords ranked or not in Google. If not then try to find out why google penalized your website.

I am talking about resolving a problem here. Something went wrong and i want to fix it.
Buying backlinks doesn't fix the fact that google may have done something.

Anyone with a way to ask if google did anything? Any email? how i do i contact them?

First, check your keyword positions whether they are ranking top or not. If they are raking top in the results, then concentrate on Competitor what the keyword is he using and start implementing it on your site(participate more in current discussions like Blogs, Forums, Networking sites etc).

Have you gathered enough quality backlinks that use the same keywords as your domain? Another thing, have you tried analyzing your competition? They might have optimized their site enough for the same keywords you are ranking number 1. And then, when the revamp happened, you basically fall out of the game due to inadequate backlinks to compete with the competition and to remain in the position. IMO, webmasters need to maintain their position through feeding enough backlinks to stick it to that position from time to time.

This is nowhere google's task, IMO. Site rankings are done automatically, through an algorithm you need to keep your site's appeal on, the reason why SEO exist. You need to keep up your on-page and off-page optimization to maintain that appeal on their listing.

Would this also mean that you did no extraordinary to one up the competition? Sometimes expanding the comfort zone can help you secure the position. Do things which you think your competition is not actively doing, however not spam or blackhat.
