    Ok,

I'm not getting the backlink thing. Is it that backlinks are links of my site on other sites. Or do i have to have links for other sites on mine.

I thought backlinks were links on another site directed to mine?

Like if I would go to Digg.com and have a link to my site from there, wouldn't that be a backlink of some kind. It might not be the link I want or a good one however it's still a backlink right?

Some please help me with this...

Backlinks are links from other websites to your site. They are also known as incoming links and inbound links while links from your site to other sites are forward links also known as outgoing or outbound links.

A backlink is a link that is coming from another site to your site. That link is then called a backlink.

A link from the digg.com website for example linking to your site is a backlink ;)

And a link from your site to another site is called an outgoing link.
Hope that cleared things up for you :)

    Try this Google search:

    @:yourdomain.com

And see what kind of results you get.

Go to msn.com and search for link:www.yoursite.com to check how many people link to you.

The more links you get the higher your site will rank.

Thats what I did and it didn't show nothing.

But if I use my site name to do a google search I get 1250 hits. Now i know not all of these have my url posted so there not back links. But for example in the search by site name I get www.mypagerank.net with my url going to the mypagerank page with my url so that makes it a back link right?

I show none... Something is wrong here

I mean come on... some of my post here have my url in them and they should be backlinks also

Go this tool and enter the domain of your website plus the security code displayed then tell us what the results are?

Your domain is being displayed together with other url's but yours has a blue star, next to your domain are the results listed.

And use this tool as well.

9 links isn't going to get you very far. 9000 is more like it.

You just need to do more backlink building, strange that the digg.com link did not turn up.

Get more active with link building and more links will show eventually in Google.
Google is known for showing lesser backlinks compared to other SE engines.

    Get to work ;)

Start reading through this section and google for "Link building techniques" and "Link baiting".

Above section contains some interesting posts about link building strategies posted by Will.Spencer and others as well. Just looked them up for you ;) These threads are a must read for you.

Also read through this page which also holds some interesting information which you can use to gain more links.

    Have fun man.
